The first victims of the new French law "opening" the online sports gambling and poker markets are the players at Cake poker who are forbidden to play there from tomorrow on.

Closing all existing account is part of the procedure they have to follow if they want to apply for a stupid French license that will allow them to operate a French only poker room with an extra 2% rake (capped at €1, but without a no flop no drop rule) going to taxes.

It sux big time.

Hopefully some rooms will refuse to comply and we can keep playing on the international networks.

I can tell you that in Italy is worst. They censured the major sites so you can not even access those to download the software.Instead you can access the italian sites which offer very less .....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Nothing confirmed 100% yet, but considering the Italian precedent, it's likely PS will go for a licence and FullTilt won't. FT would therefore rule, as always.

If you have money on there, I hope you were able to withdraw all of it!

I dont have money there. And apparently withdrawing won't be an issue for those who do. Just that they won't be able to play there until June when the new crappy French room opens.

No I found a better solution.I told some of my friends abroad to download the installing kitt and send it to me.Once you installed it on your computer it connects whitout any problem.SO I can play on those sites bypassing the "italian regulations".But this is a different situation like in france. They have to shut down their account if I understood it properly(I mean the french players). No such thing in Italy yet...:thrasher:

This is a shame, I really hope stars and tilt stay strong lol I hate it when a site gets less players. Are the governments doing this to get more taxes or something or to keep the money in the country? I dont know the whole story.

Officially, to protect the players.

Practically, to increase tax revenue.

Unofficially, to open the market to new operators that are controlled by personal friends of Sarkozy while putting enough constraints on existing (illegal according to France) poker rooms so that they can't use their current French player base to jump start the French version of their room. So if you want to have a French license, you first need to close all the French players accounts before applying.

People expect pokerstars will play along and Full Tilt won't, so I'll probably have to close my PS account. But no official word yet from them.

Now that is unreal, what a shame I hope there will not be many more countries following suit.

I think it's a step in the right direction for all European players.
First Italy now France, I'm just worried that the focus is going to shift away from North America, especially w/ the FTP indictment along with this new Law in MA

This is the sort of thing that might happen in Florida with their proposed legislation. Politicos are so nul.

I just read some where that they are passing legislation "legalizing" cash games now in Italy...any truth to the rumor?

That's my best guess. Full Tilt is the rebel of the online poker world. They figure they're already in enough shit and trouble in the U.S., why not piss off the rest of Europe too....lol.:D

There's a theory going on on the French poker forums that this might actually end up good for us French regs. We could continue to play illegally on FTP or Cereus who are both unlikely to apply for a license, and then we would get exclusive access to the French fishes on the French only rooms, and that might make the games sufficiently better to compensate for the extra rake.

This is all guess work until the law actually comes into effect. It's also possible that the French only rooms will have virtually no tables running at 100nl+.
