These days I am seeing a new trends on most poker sites making mtts late registration too long or either excessive. That is making the late registration at level 12(2 hours) and on some sites even reaching level 20.

IMO to be ideal late registration should not exceed level 9 or 1 hour and 30 minutes so it won't involved too much variances and time consuming.

What are you guys thought on this?

they do this in the GTD tourneys so they can cover the prize pool with enough entrants. its the only way you can get a good payout for a micro buy-in.

I almost never late register with less than 20bb, otherwise it's just shoving and hoping to survive. plus registering early gives you more information about other opponents.

I think it makes no sense to register late for large blinds

This exactly!!! That's why there's almost no overlay anymore in tournaments. Also, for those who are able to play on pokerstars, the increasing popularity of the Progressive Knockout tournaments, in my opinion, you want to get into those tournaments on time or else you are giving up equity. If you late reg. in those tournaments 30-60 minutes late, you're at a disadvantage as you need to chip up to be able to start winning those bounties which can result in your freerolling that tournament.

I'm not a big fan of late reg. for a tournament, especially that late, but if you're up to 15 minutes late, I don't think it's too bad.

I agree...2 h is too much

My point exactly. This kind of late registration can easily scared all the recreational players away. Not many players are willing to spend to much time playing a tournament.

The best thing they can do is to keep late registration below level 10 and also increased the field payout structures to 20-25%.This will encourage more recreational players to play thus reducing overlay or even surpasses the GTD price.

it also spoils our game...i mean how much luck u need to play for 2 h of late reg and another 2 to win something

I don't like the late reg either.

15-30 mins should be enough and at a push an hour.

That's why I prefer the 45/90/180 mans no late reg :D

Late regn are a nuisance and coming in at the final period just means that you know they have to play in a way which will make up lost ground - so you read their hands appropriately.
Yes the sites have guaranteed prizes but I wonder if the prize money would not be reached if they had shorter regn time - the same players frequently wait for the final time registration.

It certainly will require some amount of luck just to survive until you reach ITM.Even if you double up early still doesn't guarantee a place ITM.It is much better not exceeding 6 level or one hour.

I despise the late registrations. 30 minutes...I get. 2 hours is just stupid.

I also hate when sites like FF or BOL say "freeze-out" only to allow "re-entries". That's not a freezout. That's a junior rebuy.

Late reg can be annoying but it is essential for us to make money "Don't Hate" Those who come in in the dying seconds only get 15 bbs and are donating to the cause. Know the are jamming any ace and exploit it.

My self I prefer to buy in 45 to hour or so late. still come in with 100 bbs and are in great shape. Plus those morons that shove 200 bigs are typically gone r have enough of a stack you no not to bother with them

Late registration is very often in the 'garanteed ... dollar' tourments. Just because the poker site wants to make some profit. I hope that most people see that and just don't enter any more when the game is on for at least 1 and a half hour. They just make it harder for them selfs.

Yes, of course!

registration for the tournament must be no more than an hour.

I would say more, freerolls need to do in MPN pokernetwork.

10 min after the start of the tournament to weed out all not participating.

Who sit out go out!

Pokersites will never suffer because of late reg being 2+ hours.... There are a lot of players who do not care how long the late reg is.
