hi everybody, i hope you can give me some insight on something that happened to me at a table tonight. I had been playing at a 1/3 nl for about four hours and was playing okay, but I was getting tired and ready to leave. I'm coming to be sort of a regular in the room, and the casino is new to the area. Anyways, I was dealt AK off suit under the gun and raised to 12. After two callers, a fourth raised to 60. It was folded around to me, and wanting to leave winning put me in a tough spot. I thought for a while and, on a frustrated whim, tossed my cards face up onto the table, exposing my folded cards. The dealer said that it was a "huge deal" and explained why, and I told him I didn't know any better. It's not that I didn't really, but I just didn't think at all about the people that had yet to act behind me. I got up and left immediately afterward, partly out of embarrassment, and partly because I was ready to leave anyway. My question is, how big of a deal is it, really? Can you get kicked out for doing it? I felt like I was doing the right think by excusing myself from the table right away. I sure felt dumb.

You mean you made a mistake? WTF IS THE MATTER WITH YOU!!?!?!?!?!? :)

With people left to act you are not suppose to expose your cards. It's a basic rule and my guess is since you've been there frequently, everyone assumed you 'knew what you were doing at the table' and got more upset then if you were a complete noob.

Imo, learn the mistake and get back into the room any time like you feel like it. It's a mistake, it happens to everyone.

Cheers

Lets say there's a guy with 66 and he's convinced himself that if you fold he's gonna push? And you reveal a 6 on your fold?

Think that might change the action?

It's a real big deal. Lesson learned. Ten lashes with a wet noodle.

Yeah, folding+showing if you aren't already heads up is a pretty big no-no.

Im gona bump this. I was up over 400 dollars in an australian casino. (star city) and getting ready to leave, I was UTG and was the last hand of the night I had decided.

I raised with Pocket kings, got shoved all in for 300 dollars by a player and then after a stupidly long decision folded the kings face up after a short stack called the all in with AK.

It was the best fold of my life, the other guy had queens and hit a set on the flop. If I had called it would have ruined almost all of my profit for the last 5 hours.

I was allowed to show them face up because the rest of the table was either all in or folded. The look of shock on their faces at the fold, and then the even bigger shock when then the queen fell on the flop. I wont forget it lol.

ps I dont care if you bitch at me for folding kings, I blew my winning on a great new years eve not long after so I care not :p

You're about a 57% favourite, that was a bad fold. Don't look at the results of hands to judge your play.

It may have been a bad fold but if you're leaving soon and youre happy with the stack why risk the bad beat? I know after several hours of playing and if i'm planning to leave and i'm happy with my stack i like to keep pots small. But I usually play house games so when I'm getting ready to leave more often than not a few others are too and the game will be done. That adds to desperation for tilty mcgee next to me thinks "I'm already down 150. what's another 50? this 6 8 suited looks pretty sexy."

LOL. Unless you really can't afford to lose it then it's disastrous and you may as well play BJ. If I was in the game game and up $150K then I'd probably do what thay guy did with aces and fold but unless you're broke it makes zero sense, your reason fo it being a good fold is even worse.

Exactly this reason. I was happy with my stack size.

@Humps, I see where youre coming from, I would never fold like that online, but when I play live, it's for fun and I have only played live 6-7 times and they are months apart. I was happy with my win :) Im really quite young and that's a lot of money to me.

@BlueNoWhere, When I play live on the odd occasion that I do, I don't play to increase a bank roll. I play for a bit of fun and to see if I can get my self some extra spending money for the upcoming night out or shopping trip. I wasn't going to risk ALL my profit for the session on the last hand of the night. I was happy with my win of 400 dollars and that was that. Can't work out if you're a troll or just really passionate about poker atm.

A troll? You're on a poker forum, claim folding kings was the best fold of your life because a guy would've made a set of queens, thne you say you can't work out if I'm a troll? ****ing moron.

General, as long as you acknowledge you're playing recreationally and under-rolled it's fine, just understand that it's not good or even marginal, it's downright horrible and your outlook is not going to produce long-term good results for you. Passing up hugely +EV spots like folding Kings there is terrible poker.

you wouldnt be calling it the best fold of your life if your hand had won.. since you were a massive favourite to double your earnings you messed the hand up. you are using really flawed logic. "4 guys went all in preflop for 400BB and i made the worst fold of my life throwing away 72o, i would have rivered a straight and beaten AA AA KK QQ "

You know my post wasn't about it being "the fold of my life" you people seem to think that was the main focus of the story. I'm not saying it was a "good fold" I'm saying it was a lucky fold. The words lucky and good are not mutually exclusive.

But anyway, that was my little story about what I found an interesting event.

Theory of Poker: if the cards were face up would you have played the same? would they? Everyone has had K's cracked by A rag, if the cards were face up would you have played different? the other guy has Q's, 2 freaking outs! Results oriented thinking, lucky fold but bad decision.

Thanks guys :)

@Pot Luck, I kid you not, I put him on queens, but I just had this weird feeling I was going to lose it all. Since I was just about to leave I wasn't going to risk it.

TBH I'd rather be lucky than good anyday.

I am never folding KK pre. Just cant do it.

And I would always hope to be lucky, and someday I may even be good....

But back to OP. It happened, dont worry about it. You know better now, so lesson learned.

I had a similar experience, surprisingly @ Star City in Sydney. I'd sat down with around $100 and doubled it, this was on my 19th birthday and my first time playing in a casino. Anyway, I'd just got to $200 and thought, F it, I'm done, happy birthday me. I'll play to the BB and leave. Next hand, Aces. UTG raises to $22 ($1/$2), second guy calls. I just ship my $200 in the middle. KK and QQ call. Flop Q68. gg me.

I think most people here will agree - when it comes to telling poker stories - they are almost always mutually exclusive.

agreed :) I would never fold kk pre . BUT I never say never so I'll say 99% of the time . but under his circumstances I would have done the same . and even if I seen kk come on the flop (after fold ), although disappointed , I would walk away with a smile :D no lesson learned here for him . his guaranteed win of $400 had way more value then the POSSIBLE $1200 win at that time . jmo :D

gg , bad birthday ;) clearly no choice but you can see one bad move of folding could have guaranteed a good birthday and first casino experience :)

Yeah, but then I wouldn't have had a bad beat story for people to feel sorry for. Win IMO.

I've had a number of bad beats this week alone....I'm not gonna mention them here because lots of people get them all the time and other people's bad beat stories are boring. Ofcourse mine aren't...lol
