Perhaps most of you do know - but was news to me - so I thought of sharing in case it is news to other members too.
pokerstars has the 80 billion's hand celebration coming-up - so I visited the VPP rules.
Found them to be different then I remembered (I was away for 4 month - was in hospital with a bad broken leg) so inquired from support to get a better understanding.
Here is the relevant part of their answer.
Allow us to explain, VPPs will continue to be awarded in ring games based on the rake collected in each pot. The same total amount of VPPs will be awarded for each hand but not all players dealt in will receive the same number of VPPs.
Previously, any VPPs awarded in a ring game hand were distributed equally between all players dealt into a hand. This changed on January 1st, 2012 and was announced on our website.
Players will now receive a share of the total VPPs awarded based on how much they contributed to the pot.
The formula for VPP earnings under the method is:
(Your contribution to pot / Total pot) * (Rake Collected * VPP multiplier)
VPP's are awarded same as it used to be 5.5 VPP per $1 US of MTT fee.
This info may make a small difference to the "occasional" cash game player - that is looking at the 80 Billion's hand promo.
Good luck to all - hope the info is of some use.
