You are correct. They actually admitted giving an incorrect reply. Opened my e-mail this morning to this:

information. I would like to apologise for this as this was my
interpretations of our policies.
Briefly, you don't need to contribute money to the pot to receive an FPP,
you will still be eligible for FPP's if you are dealt into a hand and
decide to fold. As long as you are dealt into the hand and don't leave the
table before that hand finishes you will receive the FPP's equivalent to
that pot size.

The above should answer your question. As long as you are dealt into the hand and do not leave the table before the end of the hand, you receive the points if the rake in the hand qualifies.
