The last years of the game's reduction at the cash tables of pokerstars are happening more and more rapidly. According to the PokerScout website monitoring the traffic of online poker, the average weekly cache player count is 11,500, which is almost half the level of 2011. Looking at the dry figures, it may seem that PokerStars, along with the entire online poker industry, is confidently falling into a tailspin. On the other hand, many poker rooms shift the focus from cash games to other poker variants. The question is which of these factors led to the situation.

I think that drop in traffic has more to do with regulations from many countries around the world from 2011 until now, than anything else.

I'm confident that if it weren't for that, online poker would have about the same number of players it had a number of years ago, if not more.

Poker as a whole has been drying up for a minute. Hopefully things will get back to how they used to be.

It seems to me that there is one more reason.
The fish dissolves. Sharks go for fish

Black Friday obviously had a lot to do with the drop. Another factor seems to be that the poker sites are not providing the kind and quantity of freerolls that used to attract new players as much. Also, the shift to online casinos may be attracting the Bingo type players in much greater numbers.

I know your comment was about cash games, but a lot of recreational players start with tournaments. I don't know if payout structures have changed much over the years, but a lot of tournaments today essentially demand that you make it to the final table before making it worth your while to play in the first place. That can mean 4 to 11 hours of play and thousands of players. If you don't have a lot of free time and the right skill set, that's just not realistic in today's economic environment.

the game has been evolving more and more, the cash game is a game that there were many recreational today there are not so many, most migrated to SnG 9 player and others! I also believe that the variety of sites made the Pokerstars fall!

you have said the right answer, I also think it was not a good business to acquire the fulltiltpoker platform which is the poker site that is now in a tailspin, because it does not appear in any of the promotions of any page

What goes up must come down just look at Cryptocurrency.
The Money effect has weared off over time. The numbers were probably never going to sustainable over time. This is the case with most products when there is a "Boom".
Regulation plays a major factor also. Most recent drops would be due to Pokerstars change of direction to more recreational players than volume players and dropping their rewards.

I noticed that on PokerStars very few players from China think that with the right approach it can become a good market for PokerStars in the future !!!!

As more and more countries are creating laws prohibiting online poker, the US included, traffic is dropping in sites like PokerStars that used to be open to all players.

Also people losing lots of money chasing losses is another reason people stop playing.

i think it has more to do with players being uncomfortable in cash games opposed to tourneys. this could be because many common friends can be at the same table in cash games & theyre can be a one sided monopoly in cash games too. personally i would prefer playing tourneys as i dont trust the outcome on cash games, for example one player with two diff accounts or common friend's playing together. in tourneys seating is randomized and u can choose which table to sit on. plus sheer volume of players makes it hard to monopolize the table

I think there are a few factors adding to this drop overall and it feels like a perfect storm really:

- Countries banning online poker. Black Friday in the US, Australia, some European countries...when you remove the number of people that played in those countries, your overall number will drop

- The fish grew up - we live in a technological age where the average poker player that in 2010 would be a fish can now study hundreds of articles, watch countless videos, and play along with online pros in real time, learning the tricks of the trade. This has led to cash games being more difficult to beat - and the more players lose, the more deterred they can be

- Bingo - We live in a constantly moving society and players now a days are drawn to big money tournament prize pools. MTT's and jackpot SnG's have grown I'd think because of the lure of the big money, whereas playing a cash game the prospect of winning big isn't there.

- Bots - Some sites have been reported to have bots playing on their cash tables which introduces trust issues - why play against a random on a cash table when that person may in fact be a computer program?

There are several reasons why the cash games have decreased on PokerStars. The first major change was the rakeback amounts. That pushed a lot of players to other sites like FT. 2nd, poker is getting hard; people are getting better.

I believe it is simple...prior to black friday we saw numerous television ads on espn and other networks which reached a huge audience. Since the fall out I don't think the marketing and advertisement has reached the masses. But just my opinion.

Poker as a whole has been declining for several years...it's not just online. Poker rooms used to be packed 7 days a week / 24 hrs a day, now you are lucky if you see a poker room 3/4 filled on a weekend night.

Kevin O'Leary Bets Big On Online Casinos

Has anyone heard any info on Kevin O’Leary’s so called investment of $37,000000 investments on a canadian casino? The name was published as Grand Mondial.

Note: I really am uncertain how valid this info is, due to it coming from my Face-book page, I had also read the same info concerning trump today, I was unable to locate any other source to verify this, so I am quite Leary of it legitimacy.

i agree with your statement but i also believe that lot of online players do not trust their respective sites as much. i for one am starting to get v disllusoned with online poker as i feel it is not 100% fair.

Great observation.

The increased rake makes it difficult to play smaller staked games profitably and with sites reducing and in some cases even illiminating ther high stakes games all leads to a smaller field of players

Just as an aside. why do so many people talk about Black Friday as if it happened just yesterday? It happened 7 years ago , keep things in perspective.

thanks to the rake increases on stars the traffic has gradually fallen. this is simple economics and in the long run is having a horribly negative effect on poker.

Some of the top pros are quitting now and moving on to new ventures now that stars has cut out so many of its premier benefits. Makes me sad:mad:
