PS DON's when are you safe to leave the table? 3200? 3500?

Only asking coz I just finished 6th after being most likely safe 2 or 3 times...drunk and screwing around mostly, but losing with flopped quads to higher rivered quads at one point while over 3000 chips.

Leave the table?

I'd just tighten up. A lot can happen. Shorties seem to hang on forever, and eventually the blinds could catch back up to you.
So leaving is dangerous.

Quads are an unavoidable loss.

Yeah, leaving doesn't make any sense...as soon as people see you are gone they may speed up play and blind you out whereas normally you would have been good. If you are at the table, people are not going to play against a bigger stack, and it helps you get thru the money easier.

i've been in DON's where 5 of the 6 ppl noticed the giganto-stacked person has left and just gave each other's blinds back a couple of times...also been in a couple where someone didn't care and wanted all the blinds so it didn't matter. i've seen someone with 6-7thou chips bubble quite a bit thinking they run the table. i've also come back from being 8th after a bad hand with 180 chips left when the BB was 150 to be the chip leader by the time it ended...don't ever leave the table. tighten up and maintain the simple fact that you're there at the least

This may be a stupid question and I'll probably feel like a jackass for asking but what is a DON

For that, you could just ship me the money.. ;)
You need to stay in them, i have seen one, with a 6K stack only to come back, with 1K left....

This. The simple act of folding hands as opposed to leaving the table makes a difference. I would say if you ever hit 5000, you should be able to fold every hand ($1 to $10 turbos).

Yes, folding is better than leaving, because people won't start stealing your blind everytime. You can raise to pick up blinds or call the shortstacks with AQ/AK,QQ+ when they go all in and that's it.

always make sure everyone knows you're there. if that means waiting a few seconds to fold...or calling a min-raise on your blind by a big stack if you're big stacked too. calling all-ins on your blind if its correct to...like they have 278 chips and the BB is 200 or something, no matter what i have i'm calling...they're not getting that much bigger of a pay-day off of it if they win and they're still probably in a toilet hole of trouble.

i've said before that i'm not fond of these. but at carbon poker, they introduced them recently. and thanks to a couple CC fr's ($30 worth), and about a dozen fun step 3 cashes...and now played 50 $1 don's, i'm up over $70 in a little more than a month's time (i think i got the $5 cash in aug though but wasn't playing there at all other than the cc tourney). the don's seemed like the perfect low risk deal i was lookin for.

i mean, at 1.08...you can play these really tight...and fold equity is key. the levels per BB go 20/50/100/150/200/300/400/500. have yet to reach 500. fold equity is key by the time the BB reaches 150 if you haven't reached a decent stack, and its shove time. there are some god awful players in them...and taking notes is key and they've helped. but i've found no matter how short you are, if the whole table limps, you're better off just folding your A-rag that i was looking forward to shoving. i see ppl with big stacks playing each other and knocking each other out every 2nd or 3rd game, not even realize they were both sitting in good shape. tonight, i was in one...where i hadn't so much as played a hand. BB was 150...so i'm getting short. dealt AJs in mid-pos with 1 limper. i shove...everyone folds (a couple reluctantly by way of stall)...and we get down to someone who's limped every hand the entire way who's stack was 10 chips less than mine. they let the time run out...then call for time...and let their time bank run for 20 secs...then call...Q7o. wtf! since when does that require that much thought? that's a fold....nope...QUEEN HIGH! HMM HE COULD BE bluffing! I COULD HIT A PAIR OF QUEENS WITH THIS HAND OR SOMETHIN!....really sat there and thought hard. i mean, i was thinkin someone was slow playing AA on me or something...nope. i laughed hard when they showed that hand...even after they hit a Q on the flop. i can't remember now, cause i was laughing, i either hit a straight or a flush and they were gone. Q7...note taken. but, over the course of 50 of these things in a couple weeks...i need to rethink my feelings on them...they are kinda fun. definitely are all-in or fold practice at the least. was just planning on using them to bankroll myself for real sng's a little better...but i might bother with getting a better sample of them and moving up in stakes in them for more.

oh, and *EDIT*...a question for ppl who play a lot of these. i've run into trouble trying to multi-table these. regular sng's i don't seem to have this problem. maybe i need more practice...but i've found i'm shoving sometimes when its just a bad time to shove...mid-pos or cutoff with a marginal hand when i'm short and just feel like i'm odds-wise, not getting a better hand before my fold equity is just not enough...where playing one at a time i'm cashing almost all of these things...(yeah i know, just 50 at this one site)...what's your all in or fold strategy when the situation comes up? i guess i just have a better feel for it in regular sng's when playing a bunch of tables at once

This is all ICM push fold and requires more repetition than anything to get a feel of pushing ranges. Run SnGWiz on as many hands as you can get or if you cant, play with stove and work out the math on calling ranges. The better feel you get, the faster your decision making, and the more tables you can play.

sweet, thanks. i figured it was just a "feel" type thing. by no means have i played tons and tons of don's. i downloaded a trial of sngwiz just to see what's going on with it and it does support carbon hh's...though i definitely don't have the money to pay for it...kinda had a hard time understanding why it was telling me to push pure crap from mid-pos that i'd folded knowing it was a really fishy table and wouldn't let me set certain players to as truly lose as they really were. (though it does not seem to have carbon don's in its configurations, and i think that's part of the problem currently) i'll have to spend a little bit more time playing with it. i don't know, there were some cool things about it. the video tutorials seemed a little dated in comparison to the version i dl'd.

you are right, i need to break out the stove a little bit more with don's. i played with it in regular sng's and it helped a lot. i can multi-table regular sng's all day and i have a feel for that where i can be pretty sure the move i made was right whether i win or lose. so i guess the more of these don's i play, the better feel i'll get. its just been hard adjusting to making moves you'd make in a regular sng with 3 or 4 or sometimes even 5 ppl remaining..when there's still 6 or 7 ppl remaining in a don. workin on it though...through over 50 in a short burst of time, i've done well over all. would like to gain the confidence i have to multitable reg sng's over to don's as well soon
