Does your local poker room have weird rules?

Recently I stopped by the Thousand Islands Charity Casino north of kingston, Ont. to check out their new poker room. It's a small casino with approx. 500 slots and a dozen tables. Their new poker room is very nice with only 4 tables, but very nice quality and 3 huge lcd tvs. The thing that struck me was the different house rules which I find very unusual compared to the places I play in vegas and throughout Ontario. The most annoying one was they let raises out of turn stick and new players can play in the dead small blind. The raising out of turn was terrrible and when I tried explaining it to the staff how people were taking advantage and how it affects the integrity of the game, they had no idea what I was talking about. The house rule still exists and I thought instead of not playing there, since it is very close to me I decided to take advantage myself. I gave them fair warning and they decided not listen. So, I've been literally stealing from these noobs right in front of thier eyes. Unbelieveable! a license to steal. I go their 4 days a week and average 500- 800 dollars a session on their low limit games. I wonder how long it will take before they realize my point. Until then, I'll make them pay. The funny thing is I even contacted the casino manager and the provincial gaming corp. and no change. I must be in heaven. I will send a thank you card to the casino and OLG when I put a huge down payment on my new house.

i cant really think of any strange rules really. in fact the only thing that any casino around me does that is different from the other two at least, is they have a betting line which they enforce. if you dont announce a raise, and come across that line with a handful of chips, then all the chips in your hand is your new bet. as far as your casino, who in the world is running it? it doesnt seem like they have any idea what they are doing. if you reported it to the gaming commision and the poker room manager, i supposed you could try to contact upper managment of the casino and/or the owner of the casino. seems to me they havent been educated on the game at all.

Unless it's turning people away from their games, I'm guessing the casino's care factor on the raising out of turn point will be roughly zero. They get paid the same amount of rake regardless and if it's not hurting them financially, they've got no incentive to change.

I'm not 100% sure I know what exactly you mean by making raises out of turn stick or how you're exploiting it, any chance you could talk us through a hand?

My local casino does a few things that you wouldn't see in other places. They have weird buy-in amounts, for a while they were playing $200NL with a $40-min / $60-max buy-in. They also charge time and rake the pot. They're the only game in town though, and I guess they know it.

In tournaments they throw in a few odd games too - they'll play things like team events, which I haven't really come across anywhere else.

Ditto. I don't understand how betting out of turn can give you any advantage.

Still, it's a shame they don't care about the integrity of their games. I don't think I'd be able to play in a venue like that.
