Why do you prefer?
Register for the tournament directly or qualify for it?

I prefer to just register for the tournament directly. But I do occasionally play satellites.

Not into Sattelites

Not into Satellite play, for the ones that I see are either bad payout like only a tournament ticket to another satellite (Which is a set time normally from the games I have looked at, so even winning, you may not be able to make the next Satellite making the win useless), or way too many players to make the time vs the win worth it. I would much rather play MTT tournaments or some Sit-n-Go's.

According to the amount of buy-in, but rather directly to the tournament.

Direct buy-in is a better choice I think.
With satellites you have to be 'ITM' at least twice, sometimes more, before you can take the money, so less chance there.
Also it feels a wrong bankroll management if you play in a satellite that gives a ticket for another tournament that would cost you too much.
Imagine being allowed by your bankroll to play in a tournament of max 2$. If this is a satellite to a 20$ tourney, then you will play in that one, while it is way above your maximum.
Better play then in a regular tourney, and add your winnings to your bankroll, which after a while (if you play good) should give you the oppertunity for the 20$ tournament when the time is ripe.

If the bankroll is not an issue, why not just buy in directly and have more chance of winning?

It depends on the buy-in. If I can afford it, paid without problems. But I prefer the satellites, as if you were able to qualify for a bigger tournament, you have conditions to win a good prize.

Both ways are good to play, because at sattelites with lower buy-in you can win tickets to better tournaments or sometimes cash.

I like sattelites.
But not the ones that only give one ticket in like 50 players.
When I play a sattelite the buy-in is normally like 4 times smaller than the real buy-in of the tournament.

Hmm, tough question without qualifying your question. How big is the buy-in for the tournament? How many satellites would you have to win for entry into said tournament? Are we talking STT or freeze out style satellites?

All things equal, IMO, I would go for a STT that gets me entry into the main tournament. I only have to get through 10 people, and the rake is usually pretty low on the STT. Most of us mere mortals don't have the BR to buy-in directly. If you tried to get into a $10K event via a cash game, then you would pay more rake grinding to $10K then in the STT. Also, there are chop options so you usually have to be in the top 3, then play another STT.

i guess i preffer direct buy-in cuz when i play satlelites the luck is with me , i win the ticket and when i start playng the real money tourney i get out of luck...so i preffer to play tourneys with prizepool in money rather than in tikets

I like both, but if it is too expensive i only satellite in.
But most i love taking the T-Dollars instead and play more tournaments with it. For instance i Play often the $2.20 Turbo sats for Sunday Storm and take the 11 T$, if i qualify.

the BEST satelites are the ones that award 20-30-50 seats and have 5000 chip 15min blind structures. Lots of good players, while many players are never patient enough! They keep thinking they are trying to play high risk and make the final table. These satelites are usually held on Saturday for the big Sunday Tournaments Carbon has a great one on Saturdays.

Naturally prefer satellites but for some reason I noticed that the direct coefficient udpci more than a satellite.
