I am disappointed that there is buying after 3 hours of a game. We play our best and someone buys in at the last moment and gets lucks. That is not poker. That is buy your way to the cash.

Late entries are all part of the game and the sites need it to fill the quota of players to off set the tourney prize money.
Late entry also serves you well if you wish to miss many of the donks and donk play at the beginning of a tourney.
You should try it instead of complaining about it.

last time i checked this game did involve some luck, so one should not be complaining when it against you sometimes. Most tournaments meet their guaranteed prize pool only because of late registrations. It is so much convenient to players and gives them freedom to choose the time to enter a tournament and that attracts a lot of amateurs and dead money to the prize pool. Heck i say you should try and enter at the last minute and play sometime - it sure will be so much fun as you will try and play a lot of hands to collect chips.:icon_quee

Just imagine if there were no registrations at live poker tournaments !! Everyone would arrive so much early like they are at some job interview. The regular tournament scene would cease to operate successfully without late regs my friend.

I hear you man, but even some poker pros think that using late registration is very useful sometimes, especially in slow tournaments. The risk is bigger, that's true...

Entering a tourney last minute is particularly profitable if you know when to make big moves and double-up, triple-up up or quadruple-up or more..

I assume you are talking about Carbon for sure cause the Sunday tourneys they do like 3hrs. The others are like 2 or 2 1/2 i forget. But I mean really if someone wants to buy in at the last minute lol let them. Sounds dumb to me. Why I wont re-enter in them if it gets that late and blinds are way too high. Like usually, If I got a nice stack going on those guys just now sitting down with 5K are usually ones I eat up right away cause they jam with some really marginal hands, and if you got a good stack by close to end of late reg. Psh, what is 5K? As for buying your way in the money, I don't think so. Those late regs usually end still minimum I see is like 100+ away from ITM. Also, if someone wants to waste their time and money, just to buy in late to try to reach ITM that is just sad. Seeing how just hitting ITM is usually so small it is basically in my eyes is just your pat on the back here is your money back. Like don't get me wrong I like cashing, but just reaching ITM doesnt even please me anymore in MTT's

The way to ensure you take advantage of this kind of structure is to be adequately bankrolled since these tourneys often allow rebuys and addons.

So to play in the $215 buy-in every sunday at Carbon I would say you should have about 5 buyins in your bankroll at least ($1,075).

You should also realize the risk people take by entering tourneys so late: most don't have a chance of going anywhere witha single buy-in since they will often start with 1500 chips and at the end of late registration the average chip stack could very well be around $10,000 with $500/$1000 blinds. One would have to be EXTRAORDINARILY LUCKY to buy-in at the last minute and survive with a single buy-in. The fact that it is so risky actually benefits you because more money is added to the prize pool by players who are likely not sticking around for long.

I used to get annoyed by this kind of tournament structure too. Then one day I realized that I was looking at the whole situation in the wrong way. If I am adequately bankrolled I will increase my chances of cashing in these tournaments and anyone who registers at the very end of late registration is taking on much more risk than those who start right at the beginning. Of course, I would limit the number of buy-ins you are willing to risk on any one tournament for otherwise you can get carried away and lose a lot of money. 5 times the buy-in is usually a good number for me.

Late registration period of 3 hours is very long . To make ITM player has to be very lucky as they have to shove their stack in few next hands.

Late registration is a fact of life, and it happens to some degree on all sites.

There is a point where a late registration barely covers 1 BB, yet folks with too much money and a binge to maintain continue to enter.

It would be nice if LR didn't exist, but if you see the word Guarantee, there will be LR and that is guaranteed.

The only sane alternative is fixed size SnG's

so why don't you try to buy in so late like the other guys do??
Ever tried it before??

I honestly don't like to buy in late, just because I can take more chips from loose players at very beginning.

If you don't like it don't play over there that type of tourney.

Just my $.02

Late registration can certainly be irritating but if you've played well through the early stages you can easily avoid any danger from late buy ins.

I would like to have removed a little late registration and then for three hours, in fact a bit too much ! and unless you're lucky and you have 1500 chips and blind already explicitly at the level of 20 ! in that case, what to do???????

it all depends on the policy of the poker room and the occupancy of the tournament. Tournament organizers need filling tournament then only it will bring profit. And everything is based on that. So the organizer of the tournament will not listen to the players.

I wonder who ever addressed a complaint to the organizers of the tournament? They ask them to reduce the time late registration? What you've got the answer.

In the late stages of the tournament the variance is big anyway, you will win or not win a big prize by one won or lost flip. You need to deal with that. These guys only allow to lower your variance. You can safely risk 1/10 of your stack with nearly any A, because with 2-3 big blinds they will shove nearly any two cards and your aces gonna be good a lot there. And you don't even talk about the massive amount of dead money in the pot from the blinds and antes. which is gonna be at least another 2000.

So suppose you have 20k, you are risking 1500 (3BB, suppose BB=500) to win 1500 + 500 + 250 + 500 (ante) = 2750. That's a massive chip up for getting that less of a risk with the cards they are shoving!

It's the downside of having guaranteed payouts. Like OP, I would prefer late reg of 1 hr at least, but then the guaranteed payouts would go way down. That's find with me, since there is rarely an overlay anyway.
