The dot net site is for play chip accounts only. THe dot com is for real cash players.

The poker sites, also, use the dot net for advertising purposes.

Thats funny coz they seem to advertise sportsbetting sites, online casinos, lotteries etc And they're all forms of gambling.

As Gr3atness said, you can't advertise gambling sites in some American locations. The .net sites are officially training sites.

When you download the .net software you can play play money games with the .com players. It's essentially the same network, you just don't have access to the money games.

On PokerStars .net players cannot have a personal avatar, and are marked with a little white star. I don't think they can play freerolls (but I'm not sure).

Really, there's no reason to be a .net player instead of a .com player.

If anyone is interested, here's how all this came to be:

A few years back pokerstars.com did a lot of advertising on programs like the World Poker Tour. Pokerstars paid money to the network and the network ran the commercials. At the point in time that Internet poker became illegal, the feds moved in and confiscated those prepayments from the network. The reasoning was something along the lines that Pokerstars.com was a criminal operation. A figure like $3 million comes to mind as the amount confiscated.

To get around this, PokerStars started a new poker room called PokerStars.net which is not a gambling web site. Since there is (presumably) no direct link between the two, there is nothing for the feds to go after.

The details in the first paragraph may not be 100% accurate but they are pretty close.

Yes it confused me at first...I downloaded off PS.net because that is what was advertised, however I couldnt figure out how to deposit, there was no cashier anywhere to be found...I do have a question though for those who can answer...on PS.net there are freerolls, now if you place in money what happens with that money? Does it prompt you to download from PS.com and start your new account with the given amount that you won, and does this require a first deposit to access?
