I'm trying this site out and it's not too bad. The European-based player core are more passive but bigger risk-takers than the American players I'm accustomed to playing against.

They're based in Malta, but for cashouts they use a Swedish bank. Since online poker is legal in sweden, that makes things a lot easier.

The downside is that it's a small site, about 8,000 players online at any one time, and their MTTs are really bad. Also, their currency is euros, which can make bankroll management a p.i.t.a because of fluctuating currency exchange.

If anyone else here plays on Devilfish or is a fan of Devil Fish, let's talk.

i'm starting to like devilfish. mostly see him playing on "premier league poker". i haven't played at his poker site but i've played at smaller sites too and know what you mean. i dropped a smaller site "canada poker" i was playing the freerolls and their were so many "sitouts" it was ridiculous. i think the site i was at was with "boss media" which was also swedish too i think. i'd put devilfish in my top 5

There's an interesting quote from Devil Fish. He was asked how he became a profitable poker player and said: "I stopped reading Sklansky." Heresy! Lol. I have a mind to look up what books he's written on poker play. The players on Devilfish Poker tend to imitate his style.

would be a interesting read :) which reminds me i gotta get Sklansky... i have gordon's blue & green and negreanu's holdem & more holdem wisdom. hellmuth was doing colour for a premier league game and was saying "he can't believe more people think tony g is a better player than the fish". i joined unabomber on the cake network, i'm sorta like laak well??? maybe 50% though i just like to have fun and be talkative and i can be in my own comic book world. so far i've played the freerolls and i like the competition and the comic book feel of the room. i might take a look at fish's site in the next bit

i liked what i read and downloaded it. tried a americana freeroll. it was interesting but caught on after a couple of hands though i lasted about less than 10 minutes. alot more freerolls than alot of the other smaller sites i've been at which is nice cause i can't always deposit right away when first joining up.

The freerolls on Devilfish are typically brutal--2,000 entrants and top 3 get paid. Ugh. As with most other sites, the freerollers there are like play chip players--all in with junk all the time.

One nice thing is that Devilfish support tells me you don't have to deposit before you can cash out, so in theory it's possible to build a bankroll from freerolls on that site. I deposited anyway so I don't care.

BTW, is anyone bothered that the site accepts deposits only in euros? It's a nuisance to me because of the arithmetic, since I normally do my budgeting in dollars.

only top 3.... didn't know that. i'm more of a minimum deposit person. it is weird for only euros, maybe cause of them not wanting players from the usa at all. other sites i play like betfair and titan i can do it canadian dollars and i signed up with everest poker last night and they do have a deposit option for dollars (minimum deposit is $5). i think at a titan table a buyin of $1+.05 canadian was like $1.35 in euros or something along those lines. considering that poker in canada is really good it is weird that they don't have a dollar option for canucks or usa dollar anyway

xe.com?

Nuff sarcasm, welcome to CC :) I play on Entraction, sure the tournaments are pretty rubbish, if you're a more of a tournament player I wouldn't bother sticking around. I'm a reg at 10NL/20NL 6max, even though with the smallish numbers I choose to mix both stakes to get at the juiciest tables, I consider it relatively soft, and the player base to be quite polarised, proportionally compared to other sites a lot of aggro short stacks and recreational players with a few nitty regs thrown in to boot.

I also like that it's in Euro as I think it gives recreational players the delusion that they are not risking as much money as if they were playing for USD, and as said, I think micro stakes on Entraction are pretty soft particularly given the field size. Also support are top notch, I only ever got one poor response, but you're always gonna have a bad egg in customer service, by and large speedy and helpful, especially compared to a fair few of the bigger sites. :)

I also am a fan of Ulliott, he did a talk at the Oxford Union last year which was very interesting. He gets a lot of stick online largely by people that don't get him imo. He's truly part of the old school, his trash talk is calculated and he doesn't mind people thinking that he's past it. His tourney record speaks for itself and he's a mean cash player, particularly PLO. His hair is awful though.

SPCotter, is Entraction the network that Devilfish Poker is on? If it is, is there a better Entraction site than Devilfish? I've gotten used to their interface and would like to sign up with other sites that use it.

General question: When people say "10/20NL" do they mean 10 and 20 CENT NL or 10 and 20 DOLLAR NL? If you play $20 tables then you're way out of my league. If you play the 20-centers then I'll be joining you soon, I just have to beef up my bankroll a bit.

€0.05/€0.10 and €0.10/€0.20 blinds are NL10 and NL20 respectively :) The interfaces are all similar as far as I'm aware, and maximum flat rakeback deals on Entraction are 30%. You can bonus whore on other sites I imagine but so far I haven't strayed away from Devilfish myself.

i'd like to see devilfish do more colour commentary. he's a good analyst. i've only heard him do colour for premiere league poker. he can get some good shots in during a match. entertaining person to listen to.

I'm on black sea poker, also on the entraction network. I like it, I think the games are soft and can be very profitable. Good place to learn anyway.

What's bothering you about euros? I mean, if you're a winning player you should be happy.

Euro is more valueable than the $, so if you play say €0.05/€0.10 and win €100, that's gonna be worth about $130. And you still would have won $100 playing on a $ site, so 30% more at the same stakes is just huge imo!

On the other hand, if you are a break-even-losing player and have to re-deposit, euros hurt more lol
