So I was brought to ACR and enticed by the deposit bonus which reads from this website like this:

"Make your first deposit and America's Cardroom will match it 100% up to $1000, so deposit $100 and they'll give you $100 extra. You earn your bonus simply by signing up and making your first deposit."

So I put $100 in just like the advertisement says and this is what I get from support:

"As you earn out your bonus, the cash released is put into the Bonus Cash Available pool. All you need to do to release the cash is press the button below and the funds will be immediately credited to your account."

Bait. And. ****ing. Switch.

Seriously, that's textbook definition of a ripoff.

The only question is: Where do I play now that I'm done with ACR?

I understand your disappointment here. I have failed
To read the fine print a few times as well. I'm pretty sure all bonuses are released similar to this on all sites these days as well.

Heh, well it's not really a matter of the fine print, is it?

If you read the bolded above, then it is quite easy to see that there's no two ways about it:

In the advertisement you 'earn the money by depositing it'

In reality you 'earn' the money with reward points.

It's clear as day in the advertisement that you get the match just by 'simply depositing' the money. It's clearly fraud.

There was probably an asterisk on the advertisement indicated there was more to read by clicking the link. I deposited using a code on acr once and didn't get the bonus. I assumed the "reload" bonus was good for the indicated period on all reload bonuses Support told me it was a one time bonus and I had already redeemed it. I clicked on the add and it took me to the details page where I saw it was only good once per account. You're situation is different and this doesn't necessarily apply for you. I would think the advertisement you mentioned had an asterisk and you glanced over it. It's easy to do as I have done it lol.

The way they advertise these deposit bonuses is dishonest and misleading, there's no doubt about it. You have to generate a lot of rake in a short amount of time to ever receive the full amount of your bonus. If you're a low-limit player like I am, you'll be lucky to receive 10% of the so-called "deposit bonus" before it expires. In other words, buyer beware.

It says you earn the bonus by simply depositing on your initial deposit, not that you earn the money or that it's released directly into your account. You must then earn the cash by releasing the bonus amount. Sure it can be taken as slightly misleading but only because you read it as earn the bonus money rather than just earning the bonus.

How can something so small keep you from wanting to play on the site, or did you think you could simply deposit 100 get the bonus and withdraw 200$? Just play and release the 100$ bonus which releases out at a decent rakeback rate as far as I know.

As far as US sites go wpn network is pretty decent, and have many more mtt offerings and traffic than they did even a year ago ... if they can just fix some network issues they seem to have they would gain even more ground.

I once hated the software but it kind of grew on me a bit and play there now and again even though I'm not in the US and can still play on stars and the like, its nice to grind some smaller fields now and then :D

Yeah, yeah. They got me.

But I recognize you're name. I'm pretty sure I've played you several times now.

agreed ^ & hopefully continues to grow by leaps & bounds!

As far as I know, every site I've ever played advertises their inital/sign-up Bonus pretty similiarly. Some require just a ridiculous amount of play to clear even a small percentage of the bonus & for many newer players it will seem impossible.

marginally off-topic here... but...
I've also seen many players signing up with deposit bonuses, trying desperately to clear them & losing their bankrolls in the process. My advice... just stick to some decent BRM & if some of the bonus is cleared... 'bonus' (meaning... it's just an added bonus).

gl & welcome to Cardschat!

I just wrote about this topic in my latest CardsChat blog. Sign-up bonuses should be one of the last considerations when deciding which site to play on because unless you plan on grinding away 8-10 hours a day, 4 tables at a time, at mid-stakes or higher games, you will never earn them in the allotted time. You are right that they are a form of bait and switch. And the language that ACR uses is misleading at best.

just be careful if you have rakeback and do the deposit bonus, its really easy to end up with a negative rakeback balance

maybe you could provide some further details regarding this, was wondering how acr dealt with the deposit bonus if you were on rakeback already with them and it obviously doesn't sound very good?

Not sure how it could go negative though? The deposit bonus is essentially 20% rakeback so even if that is deducted from the standard 27% rakeback I wouldn't expect it to be negative.

I was hoping it would be both together but sounds like depo bonuses are subtracted from standard rakeback I guess, which is dumb if thats the case as gives no incentive to make a deposit if you already have a balance on there and little incentive to do so on any other wpn skins since better off with the 27% than the 20% deposit bonus.

Interested to see what you mean via the possible negative rakeback teunit.

The Rakeback percentage is based on the net rake: Net rake= Rake + tournament fees – bonuses

For example;Player A receives 27% Rakeback and rakes a total of $100, releases $12 in bonus. The calculation would be: ($100- $12)* 0.27 = $23.76

Player A will receive a payment of: $23.76

Thanks for some details acr rep, so just to be 100% clear basically in that scenario they would have received the 12$ in bonuses in their account and then the rakeback adjusted amount of 23.76$ so 35.76$ in total essentially?

That's what it sounds like but just want to be 100% sure since I do currently have rakeback on acr and doing the initial deposit bonus is something I have been thinking about lately so wanted to be sure it would be a benefit and it looks like it would as unlocking the bonus would simply lower the 27% to like 24ish % from the adjustment and basically have the benefit of grinding during the deposit bonus at a rate of about 44% :D.

Thanks again.

I've gotten more accustomed to the world of online poker over the past few weeks, and understand that this is pretty standard. I completely rescind any animosity over the matter.

Although, it would be cool if they all were a little clearer on the matter for the fish coming in.
