First off, welcome to CardsChat!

IMO Full Tilt and pokerstars would probsbly be your best bet as far as sites go. They offer simple deposits and withdrawls, security and are favoured by most players.

How long have you been playing? What game(s) do you play?

A $500 BR should be more than enough for $2-$5 SNG's, MTT's and 5nl.

There are many threads (and members) here that can answer your questions far better than I can in this post. Take some time to look around, there are alot of gems to be found.

These should get you started.

Critical question - where do you live ? The choice of available poker rooms is much wider if you are not in the States.

I wouldn`t say that Full Tilt or Stars are necessarily best for a total beginner. Most CCers play there, but there are other sites where the opposition is softer, and that might be more appropriate when starting out.

I put $50 onto PlayersOnly a month ago and had much luck there in the MTTs. There are a low number of players in them compared to other sites like Stars and FTP but they offer a number of relatively low buy-in (with rebuys) G'Teed tournies. I got 1st place in the 3k G'teed and 5k G'teed a couple of weeks ago and popped my BR up to a cool $2500 ... Just my 2 cents.

As a second choice if you like low buyin MTTs with a chance at a huge payout I would recommend Pokerstars personally...

thanks for the reply guys.. im from india and ill rate myself as a tight/agressive player.. normally i play tight but when im in a hand, im not afraid to 4-bet on nothing.. atleast this has helped me to easily win live cash games around my area but as gambling is illegal here, i dont find too many players/places to play with.. i think ill start with poker stars. im just confused on how i should play online. ive never played sitngo's etc. only live cash games..
also should i follow the 20 buy in strategy for cash games??? thall mean i play 25nl tables but im really not looking to deposit any more money and i want my bankroll to be 5000 $ in 12 months.. im new to online poker so i dont know where to start from.

sorry for my english.

thanks.

When looking for Deposit Bonuses and ease of Conversion I think FTP is the place.

You want my advice? If it's the first time you're depositing deposit only 200$.
It's large enough for a good bankroll that can grow fast, and it won't hurt as much as if you lost 500$ if you do lose(which is very possible since this is you first internet poker experience)...Good luck!

You can skip 1/2c or 2/5c , but if you have never played online cash poker - I'd recommend to start at 5/10c and after you can beat them -> move higher.

Live $1/$2 play is usually similar to 5/10c online. Online players are much better.

Definitely find out about rakeback before you make an account. If you do a Full tilt (among others) deposit, DO get rakeback. Google Rakeback for info on how to do this (I didnt and dont have it....) I agree with Ellie about not depositing all at once. You can do maybe 100 at one site, and see what games are for you (online a lot different than live, SnG is my game of choice, but a WAY different approach is needed compared to cash).

I cant suggest a site, but Stars, Full tilt are good, many others as well. Google poker sites, Traffic, Best cash sites, etc and do the research before you deposit. A smaller deposit and a bit of sniffing around is probably a better way to start. You can always deposit again.

Good luck.

No Idea On SNGs?

Regarding your comment about lack of experience in SNGs... I personally trained in play money on Pokerstars for much longer than I'd like to admit publicly ;)

The 80,000 play chip 9 player and 27 player SNGs were good training looking back on it though ... because the play chips pickup a little more intrinsic value as you get into the 6 figures.

GL at the tables! Stack 'em...

Definitely the advantage of having stats of opponents and yourself is worth much more than the 90$.
