Whats the secret?

Two terrible bad beats in the course of about 15 minutes this morning. I'm crying a bit inside right now...

First case I made my set of kings on the flop. Player in early position goes All-In on me with the flop K 7 2 rainbow. I think great, easy double up. Villain shows QQ and hits two running queens on the turn and river for a quad.

Not five minutes later in another Sit'n'Go I'm holding KQ suited hearts in late position. I raise the standard for about three times the BB and get called by villain in middle position who limped in. Flop shows 8 T 3 all hearts, which makes my flush. I get check-raised all in by the villain. This does set off a few alarms, but this player has been bluffing at pots quite a bit and has been playing very loose (regularly showing bluffs for all to see). I call and he shows two black aces in the pocket. Excellent, I have him dominated. The turn and river are two more 8's which puts 3 of a kind on the board and gives him a full house over my flush. Ouch...

I don't see how I could have played these situations any differently. Got my chips in with the best of it, but ended up on the rail both times.

How do most of you deal with these kind of suck-outs? How do you not let it affect your normal game. I don't want to play like there is always a monster under the bed, but these are so brutal. Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks =)

Nothing wrong with how you played you played fine, ppl just got lucky on you. After a bad beat I usually just take a step back take a few deep breaths, relax, maybe take a break and continue the way im playing (though I wont lie in saying a few profanities do come out lol). Hope thats helpful :)

Alright, let out a few profanities, had 2 cigs and moved down a few brackets. I was playing the 25$ sit'n'gos. Going to play a few 5$ to get my confidence (hopefully) back up. Key word, hopefully. lol :eek:

Some days are just like that, and you don't needto feel down about it. You played it right, bad beats just happen.

One of the first things I learned about bankroll management and poker in general was to keep a lid on my temper and take the suckouts (especially those runner runners) in my stride, its damn hard to do and I still get very very pissed when it happens but i try not to let it affect my game. Ive had very bad experiences with tilts, often throwing good money after bad, once lost my entire bankroll, so Ive more or less learnt to deal with it. Lots of swearing and cursing (sometimes I bang the keyboard real hard) usually lets out the frustration, if that doesnt help a ciggaratte break like you said does the trick. Couldnt see how you couldve played that hand better, Ive never lost 2 runner runners on the same day and that must suck real bad, but you'll get it back dont worry :).

I do feel for you, I'm a newbie playing freerolls to try to start a bankroll and have been in your positon many times after grinding along for 4-5 hours. LOTS of profanities and tantrums, but like you, you played your cards correctly, so what can you do but vent!

i would play one more SnG and see what happens, if you are card dead or take a bad beat, turn the computer off for the rest of the day, clear your head and start fresh tomorrow.

Made it in the money in the relatively easy $5 sit'n'go, which got my confidence back up a bit. Felt like a waste of time for the time/reward ratio hehe, but I think scaling down the limit was the right move. :smile:

Patience

The longer you play poker, the more patience you receive. Thus, you will learn to deal w/ bad beats better & better w/ the more experience you get. You can do 1 of 3 things to brush off a bad beat....(1) don't get upset & move on (2) don't get upset & take a break (3) get upset & never play again lol....i don't suggest # 3 but 1 & 2 have always worked for me. It takes a lot of patience & self-control to not get upset. Don't worry you seem to know what's going on so u'll be ok. GL on the tbls.

Bad beats and suckouts are part of the game. Never beat yourself up for playing your hand correctly.

I don't drop buy-ins. Unless my bankroll can't handle the limit you are playing at. I usually take a break, get something to eat. watch a little tv and then start up again. we can't control what happened or what will happen but we can control what is happening right now. Good luck in the future.

I just took to bad beats myself last night they were doing a high hand promotion at the cadino plenty of fish for me to gorge myself on i straddle pocket qs guy under the gun raises to twelve gets three callers gets back to me i repop it to 30 ug calls everyone folds flop comes a q 6 rainbow i hit my set i ckeck he has been raising everything so i let him he raises fiftyi repop him all in for 150 more idiot calls with a k turn i getet excited turn and river come up 6 a so sick fifteen minutes later i got the double runner on me again to kill my night and momentem for 2017 even though im up on the year my wife doesnt understand that this can happen and she is upset but the difference is i didnt tilt clean out the atm and i will live to play another day it messes with your head how you can make all the right statistical moves and stull lose i am a winning player and the law of avg will play out discipline and self control set yourself goals and limits cash out and protect your earnings never go past your daily playing allowance chalk it up to a bad day and live to ay another day i hate that long walk to the car and the walk into my wife after a bad day but it happens just cant let thise moments spiral you into a series of bad choices one bad day or sesion does not change your long term goals or outcomes they are speedbumps that need to driven over cautiously with an understanding if you keep i a log which i reccomend you will see that in the long term if you stick to your game with discipline and patients you can become and continue to be a winning player
