confirming id over phone or upload

I have found a few sites that offer no deposit bonus' but most of them require this.ever done it? whats it consist of? how do I know which sites are safe or who to trust? any information I should specifically not give them?thanks

Well I did a couple of times when it is a requirement to cash out. I uploaded the docs. They asked only 2 scans : one from your passport, and one of a utility bill with your address on it. That's all.
