I was in a strange tournament this morning. The tournament lobby said 1K added to prize pool, and then gave the PW in the lobby. Never occurred to me that poker stars would allow anything illegitimate to be posted on their site.

There were 11 of us starting the tournament. eight were Russian. "Ah Ha" you all say. Yep, they were colluding and the payout never reflected the 1K added. Two of us emailed PS during the tournament. Three hours later I got an email saying "you have to contact the group who issued the invitation". Of course there was no Invitation and no group listed in the lobby.

I stuck around to watch after I went out in 6th. One USA and 4 Russians left. The four kept passing chips back and forth to keep their stacks even. It was blatant. The USA guy slowly gained a lead and finally took 2nd place.

The tournament lasted 3 1/2 hours and the Russian group stood to make at best $15 from us three suckers. Hardly seems worth their time. They made nothing, of course, because of the USA spoiler taking $16 in prize money. Probably the first time in this scam that someone was able to outlast them.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? I sent back a hot reply to PS about being responsible for tournaments listed on their site, but it probably will come to nothing.

Was this in the private tournament tab? and tournament id# please.

I suspect this had to be private - and no - pokerstars should not in any way be held accountable for it. Any member with over 2k in FPP's can get access to set these up and they can say what they want in the tournament lobby. It would be ridiculous for Pokerstars to be held accountable for it in any way.

If you choose to play in a private tournament then you are choosing to trust the people who set it up - not Pokerstars.

If enough of you complain maybe they will take away our ability to set them up - which would totally suck. :(

Rather than complain about the tournament report the players for potential collusion and let Pokerstars look into that.

the number was 159879518, and I did report the collusion. and yes it was in the private tab area. there was no group in the lobby, just the statement that 1k was added and the PW was given in the lobby. HH? history? I don't have the history for after I was knocked out when the collusion became truly blatant.

Well now that you know - never join a private tournament like that expecting 1k to be added to the prize pool. If that were fact the password would have been protected. :(

Maybe they will get them for collusion - I bet this isn't the first time they have done it.

I got a situation like that too.
Two people played obviously together...
I told the stuff but no one really cared.
In those small tournements they are not doing so much against that...

Oh Damn!! I hate it if someone does that. And I never thought someone is doing that. I hope they can't do that in other sites.

Best thing is just to report it to Poker Stars, as you did. If and when they investigate, they will determine if action should be taken against that group. Poker Stars does not want their reputation damaged, so they will put a stop to that kind of thing if it continues, you would think...The important thing is that you did report it.

PokerStars support has always been great and fast when I report any possible collusion. Don't send them a "hot reply". Just be normal and cool about it and they will look into it.

Since 2nd place only took $16, I'm guessing the buy in for this couldn't have been more than $5.50. Take it as a lesson learned.

i would not join any tournament that looks too suspicious, even if its with 1000 added.

Poker Stars has a very good support team and one time i talked to them about some tables not working right and they were very good in their response. They helped me out and it hasnt happened since.

I remember on Full Tilt I noticed 2 players in a sit an go which was very odd because they had to do with beatles and almost the same number. I made the right choice and didn't play in the sit an go.

I found collusion in 1 table sngs, and in ring games before.
Alot acctually, pokerstars and tilt are bad because they are such big sitesI believe.
I usually wont join a private tourney unless it is someone or some group I belong to.
Espechially if I look into the lobby and see 8 out of 11 people there being from one place.
just my opinion.

Wow, a fantastic wage earning opportunity. 8 people work for 3 and 1/2 hours colluding to earn -$0.5 between them. I feel so sad for them. They have not quite got capitalism yet, obviously still learning.

Were they chatting back & forth with each other at all, like in Russian?

It could be tough to determine only 2 colluding, especially if they were communicating thru different means, other than the poker chat feature.

What are the signs to look for to notice collusion? In the case mentioned at the start of this thread, it would have been obvious, but how would you identify 2 players out a full table. Do you just assume this if something doesn't "feel" right, or is their some particular actions that would suggest collusion is happening?

I am sure this does happen a lot, as it would be relatively easy to pull off, unfortunately it would take away the whole reason to be on the site for me. I can't see that it would ever be profitable enough to justify the time it would take and the risk you would be taking. By Colluding you would be taking all of the fun out of it, and if that is the way I was going about it, I doubt the income would justify the time I spent.

I think if you payed a rake/fee then they need to protect you also. All tourmanrment prize money is payed by the players so al PS gets is the entry fee which what the get paid for their software and protection. If there was colusion then they can refund maoney and freeze their accounts.
If your thinking were true the n we should only play ring games with people we trust. So those people who lost to potripper should not have received any help for UB.
