On Sunday 60 minutes had a story on the cheaters @ Absolute Poker. My thoughts on this is that if you are playing for that much money, I would never do it online....big tournaments and $50 max or $100 max buy-ins in ring games or something is fine, but to play for 10's of thousands of dollars online is just crazy.........just my opinion......

I agree. That was my major hesitation about playing online to begin with. not even with people using hacks to cheat but just people trying to manipulate cash games by having 3-4 people in the game at a time. I agree that you shouldn't invest that much money in online play but it is much safer then it used to be.

the problem is like always poker sites dont get the right punishment so as long as it like this nothing will change. i mean you play for real money and there is no excuse for cheating.

Even though they can't be regulated by the U.S. they are still regulated by the people who play in the U.S. They want our money, and there's a lot of it. If they allow cheating to happen then they will start to lose our money because poker players are a tight nit group that talk on sites such as CC. You have about the same chance to be taken online that you do in a casino. I don't feel threatened in the least.

The 'excuse' for cheating is what it always has been when it comes to 'gambling'. The recipe that mixes gambling with money creates 'cheating' - just one of the by-products. Cheating usually becomes obvious because of greed, so simply keep your eyes open and be aware that it exists - live and online.

Even though they can't be regulated by the U.S. they are still regulated by the people who play in the U.S. They want our money, and there's a lot of it. I don't feel threatened either, but then, I don't play high enough stakes to be concerned and only play Real Money with cash won through my internet play. A 'few' players may avoid a site because of some 'bad press', but there really are not enough players involved in groups/forums like CC. The percentrage is really very small, imo.

A show like 60 Minutes will only have a small impact on a site's survival. AP and UB are still quite visible in the online poker market, even after forums, articles and news reports proved to people that players had been cheated out of what? some 20 million dollars.

Even the sites that do not accept US players do quite well without us. So really, in the whole scope of online poker, how much do you think the US player really influences offshore poker operations?

I do not much care for that site after the potripper deal either but the impotant thing is that person got caught and more continue to get caught and I am very glad for that.

I heard one of the people caught was Russ Hamilton the 1994 main event winner. Thats crazy we got pros cheating online now? Eventually they will be caught but only thing that sucks is they can't really get in trouble. So there is no fear to cheat when there is no repercussion for it.

i think with new safe guards in place cheating will be more difficult. but eventually some one devises a new way to cheat. i think cheating will be an ongoing problem.

The bad thing about it all is that it puts a black mark on the game. I keep hearing things like this about online poker. Congress should legalize OLP and then regulate it.

All of this could be taken care of with regulation.

You are so right, you can lose more in a real casino then online. Plus you get hand data online, but not in a casino..........

Thankfully this scandal was put to light by players (there is a great thread about it in twoplustwo). And as players it's very important to be aware of these issues, and take actions accordingly. AP finally sent out the money to players who played with the superusers, but who knows if there are more? Those superusers were found because of their extremely good win rates, that doesnt mean there are more who plays smarter than them and not get noticed.

Both AP and UB are doin great offers, rakeback deals as it is right now, do not bend to that and dont put money on absolute or UB, we should take a stand if we dont want this happening in other sites as well.
