I'll be heading to the Nugget 11/2-11/5/ Last year they had a $65 ($45 rebuy) tourney. Is there any casinos that have smaller stakes tournies? The closer to Fremont St the better.

Check out Las Vegas Poker Rooms Reviews, Tournaments, No-Limit Holdem.
They have a comprehensive listing and reviews of all the rooms in Vegas.

I've only played the strip rooms. Planet Hollywood had a nice $60 buy-in last time I was there. Paris kinda sucked. Ceaser's was awesome, but was double the buy-in of PH.

Best of cards. Report back on your experiences.

Don't play any of the cheap tourneys in Vegas. The structure will be terrible, and you would probably get better odds on your gamble playing craps, as the rake/vig/fee will be very high in relation to the buy-in.

Best bang your your buck as far as structure/play to dollar buy-in will be at Binions.

Here is my my post from a previous thread, with relevant links:

I recommend the Venetian for Strip play, and Binions for downtown. Here is my last vegas report. Also, I highly advise you to stay away from some of the cheaper tournaments around town, as the structure can be just awful.

Here are some recommendations. Also see the Bishop's reviews here.

Also, here is another room review site (although I think allvegaspoker is a bit better).

I would say check the Luxor. Played in one of 2(i believe) daily tourneys. $60 buy-in with about 5-6 tables.

Cheapest I could find was at the Excalibur (9am-11am-1pm daily) $35 buy-in, no re-buy or add-on. Start with a $300 stack, 15 minute blinds 5/10 to start. Very quick game, about 1.5 hours to complete. Pretty cool. Placed 5th in first tourney for $56. Didn't place in second tourney. Top prize was $350 in 1st game and $500 in second. Cheap/quick and pretty easy to play. If you can get some chips in the first 3 rounds, you can almost just sit and wait for the All-In fest for the final rounds.

As for the rest of my trip, wasted the first 2 days on carnival games and slots before I figured out my hotel (Golden Nugget) and most others have a $2/$4 limit game. And I didn't find out about the $35 tourney until the second night. Once I found those I had much more fun :)

I would buy in for $20/$40 and get up to $100/$150, then go back down. Playing those games you need to make sure you have something. There is no bluffing as people will call you to the river on a draw... and usually get it... I guess the casinos are rigged like on line play :)

My worst beat/play (my fault) was a K high flush with the A on the board, figured it was mine, other player had a boat (didn't see it). Even though it's limit, there's no max amount of re-raises when you're HU. Lost about $40 in that hand.
