Also probably to prevent others still in hand from seeking advice from railers or players sitting at table to make the call or fold.

I'm pretty sure this is almost standard on all poker tables, but why? It's obviously to prevent collusion... Lets say you hold AK and flop comes 6 7 7. One of the people at the table could've folded 6 7, and he announces it. You can almost rule out people pairing the flop, which gives you an advantage because of your high cards.

Definitely to try and stop collusion and there is always going to be someone that will ask what do you have whether the player is telling the truth or not or some other smart reply this way they have to wait until the hand is over.

A player moves all in for his tourney life and it's folded to the BB. He's tight and a bit inexperienced. And at about that time someone not involved in the hand chimes in and says "youre basically pot commited... It's a must call". He calls with his 9 high and catches the flop and you are out mumbeling to yourself.

I don't get it at all and find it unnatural, where on earth have you ever seen a quiet shove in a live game. It's not a live tournament rule, is it?

I don't even bother with chat anymore as it seems every time I have something to say someone is all in, message gets declined and discarded even though it was completely unrelated. It's utterly retarded, why not just queue the message and send it when the hand is done. Typing it over again... why bother!?!? Must confess though, kinda miss piping "22" after shoving bullets =D

We know collusion is prohibited so deducting that as being the reason is rather thin. Revealing your holding while the hand is in play is bad etiquette and that person does not belong at a poker table virtual or not.

I wish there was an official answer instead of us having to guess.

As someone who never has played "live" I wonder do others at the table go quiet if someone at their table goes all-in? I believe it is a good idea on-line, to stop the barracking and back chat!! Good rule :icon_salu :icon_salu

How do people find old threads :D

Because I think reduce the insult during all-in, is one reason...

You'd get so many people saying their cards which they've folded, especially at the micros where most players wouldn't care too much about proper etiquette.

As someone mentioned above it'd give you a lot of info on a flop of 667 if someone said they folded pocket 6's. Obviously they could be lying but personally I think it's best to not allow chat as it'd get abused a lot in online poker.

The question is why is chat disabled during shoves while the reasons deduced relate to a game in general not specifically when someone is all in.

My comments on some of the proposed reasons:

i. To prevent collusion
This argument is weak for two reasons, a. collusion is prohibited, the rooms have detection for this and you will get banned. b. if you are colluding in online poker then why would you use the chatbox instead of skype/google talk et al?

ii. Someone says something that encourages the caller to make a call
When someone says something at a poker table it is hardly going to be to your benefit. If I nudge you to call then its not because I care who wins or loses only that someone is likely to leave the table. Would you base your decision to call on anything anyone is saying then why are you convinced the caller did? Regardless of why the caller called you went all in risking your stack if they call and beat you only you are to blame.

iii. Chat does not belong in online poker
I can make the same argument by saying poker does not belong online. Poker is about playing the person and not the cards. With online poker you cannot see the other player instead we have to rely on speed of actions, bet sizing and statistics to try and get a tell. Bluffing you solely have to rely on your actions no way to appear confident and carefree. There is no way to taunt your rival and get him on tilt. At least the chatbox provides some additional interaction possibilities and I would suggest more interfaces like emotes definitely not less.

My argument still stands that it is unnatural, you will never see people go quiet in live events they always chatter. If it must be disabled, for which I have not heard any viable reasons, then why does the software not simply buffer the communication till the next hand is dealt instead of blocking it completely. This can solve the collusion issue which in my opinion is a non issue as people simply wont be using the chat for collusion in the first place as they have alternative ways to communicate readily available.

if you have AA , you want to others typing this player have AA call all in every time?

or ....in the tournament, ask big stack to call try to eliminate small stack?

it is unfair to ... chat when all in.

PS: the thread is ...3 years old...LOL

I think its simply so the person that is all in dosent shout out what he has after he is called by everyone because it dosent matter for him he is either going to win all or lose all and the other players can play out there hand for the side pot without inside info aka if you hold AK are all in and an opponent has K4 he has one less K to get from the deck to help him beat the other guy with 77 I think online poker should have video, but everyone would just block their cameras unless it was a friendly game.
