I'm an online poker player, having reached final table in many freeroll tournies. I'm going to a casino soon and am going to play live. I'm thinking about just playing small buy-in tournaments, just those that I could afford to lose my buy-in. Is that a good strategy for me?

If your going to have a good time certainly, to be honest small tournaments for the most part aren't beatable, unless there is a lot of competition, like my casino takes 30% rake, I don't care who you are, you're not going to beat that. I see Texas is where your at, I have no idea Winstar may have some decent tournaments I have no idea.

You should always play at a level that you feel comfortable. Yes, some of the independent casinos take a pretty big bite with rake, but you don't sound like you are in to maximize your profitability. Go. Don't play with scared money. Have a good time. Win a few. Yes, the small tournaments are just as beatable as larger ones.
Watch for tournaments that have better structure in terms of length of levels and rebuys.
