Right after registering for a SNG, they cancelled it and all the $1.10 and $2.20 SNGs are now $1.50 and $3.50. Looks like they changed the other stakes too
Any idea if they plan on carrying this over to tourney buyins as well?
I'd be tickled to see most prime time tournament buyins below say 3.30 gone, and more deep offerings from 5-15 dollars across the industry personally. I wouldn't totally get rid of offerings under 3.30s, but I would make it hard for someone to rely on them as a source of their poker entertainment.
People need to realize that poker is a hobby, and all hobbies have costs associated with them. While its nice to pretend everyone can start with
freerolls and maybe only depositing 50 to 100 bucks the reality of today's poker world is something much different. Most people are going to need to plan on depositing 200/300/500 dollars (over time) before really being competitive and being able to plan on being a B/E player at stakes like 10NL and 5 dollar tournies. Now, that wasn't the case closer to the boom, but there are a lot of competent NLH players even at microstakes these days.
Like craft Beer, you'll pay a decent amount to drink it.
Like movies, you'll pay a decent amount for blue rays, redbox and access to premium streaming sites.
Like live music, plan on dumping a few hundo a yr on tickets to see good acts live.
Poker needs to get out of the habit of telling new players that they don't need to plan on spending/investing a relatively comparable amount to enjoy the game we all love. Deposits are necessary to keep the game going for everyone and no one should feel ashamed because they deposit a decent bit at the beginning of their poker career.
