Alright boys, all i can ask is that you forgive me for what im about to say and just offer some advice on the matter.

I really dont play online poker anymore, for good reasons, but here's the story.

I played on the Cake poker network about a year ago, first deposited $100, then eventually another $320 over the course of 3 months or so, i was really unhappy that the minimum withdrawal was $500 via check, because i wanted to withdraw some money when i got to $400, eventually losing it all.

I chargebacked the credit card transactions.

Fast forward to Sept 20, 2012, i got an email from a collection agency in New york, who is now trying to collect the debt of $420.

I really dont have the cash, and i really dont want to pay it.

What can i do in this matter?

Also, what can they do? is this a legal debt, since online poker is illegal in the us? and cake is outside the country??
Can they come against my credit report? (which they have been saying)
Can they do anything in the legal realm?

any positive help is appreciated,

Pay the credit card. Hope you do not have a bank account. It can be used to pay off your uncollected debt. And 7 years of not being able to purchase a house from the mark on your credit history.
Recommendation: only play freerolls until all the bills are paid.

Unbelievable.
Are you seriously asking us what we think you should because you wanted to steal the money back from the poker site?

Yea, I didn't know about the $500 min. for a check either. I deposited a few years ago and worked my way up to a couple of hundred. Then lost most of it trying to get to the $500 I still have some cash there but don't play there anymore... Just figured it was a business expense and moved on. Take care

Forgive you for being a cretin? Nope.

eventually losing it all. I chargebacked the credit card transactions.

Sleazy.

I really dont have the cash, and i really dont want to pay it.

I don't WANT to pay my bills either, but I do.

Also, what can they do? is this a legal debt, since online poker is illegal in the us?

Online poker is not illegal, but as Dakota said - good job calling out the cc company.

any positive help is appreciated,

Tried to scam the poker site and you want positive feedback for being a douche?

Question:

If a US player had say $400 in their Cake account & needed it to be over $500 in order to withdraw by cheque. Couldn't they just deposit $100+ say via WU.... then get the cheque for $500? (or do they even have to play a bit prior to getting the cheque? & if so, how much?).

Oh and as far as OP's post goes. Agreed with all posters in this thread! (except for one who seems to have not read the other posts in this thread).

if you have 500$ in your acct you can withdraw it. I dont think it matters how it got there.

I'm sure there is a timeframe in which you have to wait bw deposit and withdrawal (id assume <72hrs). But if you just deposit 500$ and don't touch it for a bit you can still just take it out, assuming your acct is verified.

Man up and be responsible for that which you are responsible.

In the not too distant past, a man who reneged on a gambling debt could expect to lose a whole lot more than just a ding on his credit report.

This is why you should read the rules about what's required to withdraw before you deposit.

Must be Shiloh Adkins dad.

Very much made me rofl......

OP, as you see, for your situation, sympathy will only be possible to find in the dictionary somewhere between shit and syphilis, understanding between underhanded and undertaker......

Read most of the posts here, and then retreat into your inner self and reflect.

If you still feel you are right, get help.

Pay what you owe back... get a loan... then owe on that... this will go against your credit history as the CC company is reporting it... You will have 7 years of hell... Do not do what I did... which was get pissed off at bodog then reversed the charge on my card as I was unhappy (This was my drunk era as well)... I did the right thing and paid back my dues and then some... DON'T F UP YOUR CREDIT OVER THIS ONE TRANSACTION... GET IT TOGETHER... EAT WESTERN FAMILY FOOD FOR A MONTH TO GET THE FUNDS TOGETHER... I AM SERIOUS...

What you did was lost the money and renagged on the poker site... I understand you lost it, but that is the chance you take...

PAY THEM BACK!!!
Moe.

P.S. Yes I did along the same thing with Bodog... but it only took me three days to come out of my drunken stupor and repay where money was owed... I never dragged it out like OP!!! And OP... of course this is being posted to your credit report... sign up for Credit Sesame or something... you will see your default charge there in black and white... Just do the right thing... don't tag yourself as a thief... and have some remorse (sounds like you have no remorse though as you are asking if you can get away with it!)

Call the collection agency and they will usually settle if you pay them within 24-48 hours.... Most agencies cut deals like that since they are losing money left and right trying to obtain you and get you in small claims court, which for your matter I highly doubt they will do... I hope you have read my above posts... TAKE CARE OF IT OR LIVE WITH QUITE POSSIBLY A charge off on your Credit History... Charge off;s are the worst things you can have in your credit history. Never expect a 0% PR offer EVER again in your life!
