Bugsysclub Poker is a well established poker site with a pretty good following, especially with play money players - and it accepted US players. I just got an email today saying it is shutting down due to banking problems...

As of 24th March 2009 Bugsysclub has ceased trading and the company is
being wound up.
It's a shame to see another US poker site close down.

Let's hope this is the last one.

RIP Bugsys Club Poker.

Update: seems there is some information on the Bugsysclub homepage:

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control with regards to banking facilities, it is with regret that we have to announce it is no longer viable for the Bugsy's Club Poker Room to continue our business operations. However, we are delighted to inform you that Bugsy's Club have reached an agreement with the world's largest online poker site, PokerStars.com, to allow all Bugsy's Club players to transfer your account balance over to their site.

Yes it is a shame, it is one of my recommended sites for people who like small rooms. I have added PokerWorld recently as a recommended room (for people who like close-knit sites) as it looked as though Bugsys was going down based on players running for the exits.

Banking problems may have made the problems worse--but the closing of the room can be laid pretty much at the poor management of Bugsys with the end almost assured at the horrible mess they created when not completing a $1 Million Promotion, then shutting down the Bugsys Forum when so many complained publicly.

I just had an email from another forum

Sad news, another online poker site has closed its doors. This time it's Bugsys
Club. No advance warning, no notices...Which brings me to one of my pet peeves,
never leave much money in online poker rooms.....

Although good news if the pokerstars transfer works out

One way of looking at it, but Bugsys was one of the few native Mac download sites, so had to be Stars or FT. Wonder if I had anything left there? :)

Bugsys was one of the first sites I had started playing on. Sorry to see it go.

They say that yes real money will be moved to Stars, and BBPS (which not long ago had a small cash value) are voided.

Just want to point out that I have yet to find mention of tournament tokens. ($1.10 cash value at time of shutdown)

I never keep any funds on these sites or the card I use to fund them that I can't laugh about losing. But I can already think of a few players who probably have cause to be less than pleased.

With all the ads these clients throw at us there really is no excuse for not adding a shutdown notice to the loop. Could have at least gave folks a day or two to donk off their tokes.

It's a shame Bugsy's couldn't survive. The more choice of sites to play at the better. I hope this isn't part of a trend, with the smaller sites closing and the industry big boys just getting more and more of the action. Choice is good - it keeps the bigger sites on their toes.

This is a shame... they were one of the few options for Mac players. Although between FT and PS I can't say I used them very much.

well I just got around to delieting bugysPoker, it don't clean up real good.
It does not take the files out, if you would like to save a little disc space,
by getting rid of the dead file. their are a lot of ways to do this but heres one way.
After you deliet Bugsys go to:
>Start.
>MyComputer.
>click your hard dive C.
>then click ProgramsFiles.
>find bugsy File.
>right click folder.
>click deliet.

That's a good point about the tournament tokens - I think I had 1.10 in my account that I was going to use one of these days...

Oh well.

Your account transfers from Bugsys to PS has to be cleared the same as a bonus through earning rake. Wonder how cents on the dollar Bugsys got paid for the deal.

In case some were still wondering...Tournament Tokens are non-transferable and wont make it to PokerStars from Bugsys

Only straight cash in your Cashier Balance will survive
