All players are anonymous on Bovada, and they do not allow any tracking software of any kind there.

I am pretty sure that the notes only count for the game you are in.

I was wondering this myself since I am also really new to the site. The idea in and of itself is awfully interesting, anonymous players. I am not sure that I understand the reasoning behind it. Guess this calls for some research on the Bovada website.

Anyone who play in the CC games on the site have insight as to the way those are played out? Do most people share their identity?

Nope. In fact, some members who play in our CC games there do not reveal who they are. :p

Very interesting. I just remember the games being super friendly and I thought that the community may not be able to help it.

Still so confused as to why they even thought of this idea. I used to love the old leader boards on bodog.

It's kind of their "Thing". Unfortunately the player notes are only good at the table you wrote them on. Which sucks because player #2 can leave a table come back 5 min later as player #3 and all the notes for 2 are lost.
Its a double-edged sword. I personally have emailed them many times and posted suggestions on Forums calling for them to add regular tables where you use a screen name side by side with the anonymous ones. Make it optional and I think they would see their client base grow even faster.
Eventually they will listen to us if enough of us write emails, call and post on forums about making it a duel site. FYI: Since your new to Bovada, it is a very reputable site. I've gotten many checks from them as well as non cash prizes and they have the quickest payout times I know of for U.S sites and their checks clear in about 24hrs. Also they have great Customer Service. And no I am not an employee LOL, I just like to give credit where credits due.
Good Luck and I'm sure I'll meet you at the tables since Bovada is my number 1 site. They have awesome Satellite structures which is how I win most my $ there. $2 wins you a $22 TT which has decent payouts. What stakes you normally play at? I am still bottom feeding at under .50 cent BB ring games.

I think it would be advantageous to the site if they had either temporary names so it would be easier to associate play with a name rather than a number on both tournaments and cash games. When a player leaves and comes back let's say within a certain period he would still have his name attached to him let's say for only a 24 hour period. Also like Full Tilt, characters attached to the player would also be nice. I no for big tournaments this is not practical, but why not have 1000 different avatars available even for those cases. It would be more like casino play in that you can associate a player with a name, face, avatar for just that one tournament or cash game. When the cash game has no more players and breaks up that could be when the character faces or names could change. You could have a different identity on each table if you play multitable but have it so whenever that cash game breaks up with zero players your identity would change when you go back to that table after it breaks.

I personally like the anonymous feature so players can't track your play with software. I'd like a more real casino like experience myself and this feature does get at least closer to that goal.

they do not have screen names....its not as bad as people think....it gives a lot of action because players are unknown....I don't see bovada adding screennames back into their software

Only for cash games. At least you can keep track of the same person with notes in the MTT

I think they are one of the few, if not the only, site that does this. Competition and variety is only a good thing (imo), so this fits nicely as an option.

Lets also keep in mind that many so called "great" players use software to track and help them with their "skill" at poker. Without it, they are not so great after all, lol. Therefore, many of these players whine and cry unendingly about Bovada, as they cannot use their "gun" at that knife fight. Yet, look at it this way as well; this makes Bovada closer to what you have to do in a live game, so that makes for good practice.

I mean, think about it; sometimes people get so used to using autocorrect when typing so much that they forget how to spell new words and barely remember how to spell some old ones! They just punch in something "close enough" and go with it, never bothering to remember the correct spelling. Then they have to later fill something out on paper with a pen and it is largely a spelling disaster. I think that in this respect, technology really screws us. You have to write on pen and paper at some point, so are you just going to type it into your smartphone first and then copy it manually to paper? Or just hope that company you are interviewing with understands this and does not think you are uneducated, at best?

I just honestly think there are enough sites where people can use their beloved software at, so this one (or 2? 3?) site(s) is just fine as-is. They are picking up all those members who want to play a casual game without facing some computer software nerd, that does not know a calling station for a strong player without that help, who runs over them. The fact that they are sticking with it only confirms it must be working for them; I mean, how long would any company bled members and dollars? Not long, I can tell you.

Plus, believe it or not, some have actually used this example (software assistance on sites) to slam online poker, as a whole, as being a "rigged" system, compared to live poker. Do we really need that? I like having Bovada as a site I can throw in the face of those misleading arguments.

But you are right, SyKo, it does take some of the warmth and friendliness out of it, don't it? It really is a double edged sword.

Its not like carbon poker where you can take notes on all the players you play with and later when you play with that player you see the note again because they have a system where it resets because of the anonymous system.

This is exactly why I play on Bovada. I don't like these tools, databases, or calculators being used at a table when I want to replicate what I play at a live Casino. With Bovada, the main difference between this and the Casino is the number of hands seen. I love not knowing who anyone is unless they are someone I know and tell me their number. Understanding a persons method of play and studying the action at the table is what keeps me interested. Sure, if not a ton of tables and hands all at once, but its a more authentic experience for me.

I feel like it's not real 100% poker. If Bovada's not a shady site then I don't know what is...........

Can we get a Bovada rep on here to answer questions?

I also feel like its better that way. At sites like Lock you always have people coming into tables asking for money or harassing players that beat them on another table. It's especially difficult to play on a table with a pro there because people just heckle them the whole tournament.

This way if you win a big tournament, you and Bovada are the only ones that know, this way you don't have people following you around on the tables to try and get your winnings from you.

And for the high stakes that people play for, you know that no one is going to come looking for you if you catch a 2 outer on them on the river.

Yeah but then won't this make it easier for players to cheat? Multi Account, and switching account users, and all that mumbo jumbo that Dan Cates and Giara got caught for and Sorel Mizzi and BoostedJ justin smith, and a whole bunch of other people doing it right now probably.

I find it makes it easier to play "In a vaccum"... Something that as a player has its advantages and disadvantages. The truth is anonymous names keeps people from using tracking software and having an unfair advantage over those who cant afford it. Lets be honest, in real life live poker you can't look at your opponents stats for every hand he has ever played can you? But what SUCKS is that the notes u keep cant carry on, that would make it A lot easier. I can keep live notes, which I do, so when I make notes on someone I want them to carry with them. Bovada could greatly increase their credibility and player base by doing this. just my 2 pennies

Not at all do you honestly think that the security protocols these sites have in place have anything to do with a username being displayed on a table? Bovada itself still knows who is playing on accounts and from what locations and can monitor games for collusion and all that stuff. They went anonymous because of their business model. They have alot of sports gamblers and casino players and wanted to cater their poker games to a less serious player pool and chose to do this by having anonymous tables without tracking software and HUDs. Basically making it more difficult for pros to mass multitable and be signifigant siphons of poker funds. Pretty much to make a recreational players dollar go a bit further and hopefully attract more rec players
