So I play the low stakes on bet online and once in awhile enter the freerolls(usually dont as I find them a waste of time on bet online due to the high # and low payouts) I literally sat with inactives for 2 hours, even through 2 breaks, and managed to just grind out s/l blinds to about 20k chip count before I met another person not inactive. First time I ever ran into something like that before.

I too am finding the same sort of thing with the freerolls. I recently was on a table in the early stages and 6 players with "sitting out". I think that if you check how long each Blind lasts, then work out how many games that would be and how many chips you'd put in as blinds and ante then you can decide at what time to start playing (thinking this through as I type)

Which would explain why at one point and for a fair few hands I had less chips then the invisible 6. Mainly because instead of taking it in turn playing and just over betting the big blind and taking the pot there and all their chips in quick fashion there was one "live" player who insisted in contesting every hand or so it seemed.

If I'd not played some hands I might as well have sat out.

Thinking some more...

Lets say it's 5 minute blinds. I that's roughly once round the table then you can work out how many chips you will have to play for 30/60/90 minutes. Decide when you want to rejoin...

Another thing I think I've seen is with really big numbers of players is it could be possible to hit the bubble doing this. From my very limited experience I would use the 888 10k+ player tourneys as an example. At least sitting out you aren't temped by that pair of jacks when every live player has an ace and an ace is first out on the river.

I've even seen sitting out players take pots that have doubled or trebled their stack when they were all-in with the last of their chips and a couple of live players have had a spanking when it came to show. It's something I've started watching for and checking as I have no reference to their betting patterns

Fun game isn't it. :)

Was also thinking this, even with sitting out with the amount of people, the odds are against them of making it past the bubble unless they are able to gain about 2k or so first then sit out. Such as doing a all-in at the start hoping to get lucky and hit whatever they have the sitout from there. It is a possible strategy on freerolls with large amounts of players. Instead of wasting time with the fish and such just sit out until its at the bubble then play on the low end and hope you can come back. I don't usually play a lot of freerolls as the time vs money gained is usually trash (2+ hrs for >10 bucks.... isnt a profit for me)

Trying the scenario now. I managed to get to 2k chips on the first hand (AA vs a fish who tried a 2k all in)and am sitting out to see how far it actually goes. 435 players currently with late reg closing shortly. ill post a update when i deal out to see how far it actually goes. Also running one from the start 1k chip beginning.

I did an 888 freeroll last night and kept an eye on the numbers. The payout started at something like 1100 players and about 12000 started. I kept an eye on the list in the lobby of player positions and it just tumbled and tumbled. I didn't play a hand for quite a few deals and watched at the number of players who would appear on the table. Try multiple allins till they were all out while I just saw my blinds go out of my stack.

The late reg was only 15 mins or so but I reckon you could wait till 1 minute to go, and many did watching the lobby, and then sit for a few minutes and you'd be close enough to the bubble.

But that was a freeroll. I've somewhere read about the idea of waiting till just before the end of late reg on a rebuy & addon. some addons I've seem can be as much as 50k chips. That again puts you in the middle of the pack without playing the 1st hour or two.

I like you may now try some more organised observations on this.

Every time I play the CC freeroll at Betonline there are more sit outs than anything else. But that can be great when you are the only player that is really playing. I been there and I just keep taking the blinds, and I have had times when I would take a lot of players out and my stack gets bigger in a short time. WTF then another live player comes and gets in the seat that covers most of the sit outs. LOL GL to you

Its definitely possible to get in the $$ by sitting out. If you can find a freeroll with less then 300 you can get to about 30-60 players left(who actually played hands decently) with around 400-600 chips before you actually have to pay attention. Out of 10 freerolls where I just let it run until I had two SB or BB left before I was out chips, 4 of them I ended in the $ and only had to actually play about 30-45 mins. Being on the small end of the chip count can be a pain though. Got roughly $15 doing so.
Is it worth it? probably not if thats all your doing, but if you have shit to do or are playing in a non freeroll tourney, letting the tables play out for the first break or so definitely cuts down on the time and annoyance of people throwing all-in on stupid hands.
