I want to try my hand at some live MTT's. Just looking to have some fun. I have no interest in gambling to make money. This is for play.

I will have to drive a few hours, so I don't want to play one MTT and drive home. I think I will get a hotel room and stay the night.

In that case, I think I might do this:
6pm $120 NLH
8pm $80 NLH

The next day,
9AM $60NLH

That way, I get to play in 3 MTT's for $260,
and make the driving worthwhile.

With 3 MTT's, I will also be able to play more aggressively,
knowing I won;t go home after going all in in my first hand! like this chump.

Is there a certain night that is better?
Should I go on a weekend or a weeknight?
Different types of players based on day of the week?

Any place I can find a deal on a hotel?
I don't give a damn about the hotel, except as a place to crash.

there are a bunch of motels in the groton/mystic area near Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. the 8pm turbos tend to have some fish but alot of action, generally the weekend tournaments have more players in the running would suggest the $120 sunday $10k guarantee since it usually gets 120 players.

I am a fish n00b.
Just looking not to bust out in 5 minutes.

Is it better to have more players?
Why b.c of bigger payout for the winner?

"Sun. the 8pm turbos tend to have some fish but alot of action,"

What does this mean?

I went this weekend and had a nice time.
There are hotels about 15 mins away that are 80-$100/night.

I played in the $80 MTT Sat. night.
I lasted about 2 hours until level 6.
Got busted out by someone who hit a set on runner/runner!

I played another MTT the next morning for $60.
Busted out pretty quickly. A few bad beats and you're done.
I used the "start to think shove at 20BB" mentality.

I also played $200 worth of a cash game, was down to $75,
but then walked away with $400+ after a large hand where I made a good call.
So, I covered both my MTT fees and filled up my gas tank.

Playing live sure is different. It seems to play faster. And if the dealer is sloppy, sometimes, you don't immed. know it's your turn.

Another key difference is that you don't know how much is in the pot. Live, you need to start tracking about how much is in there for value bets and calling .

I had a nice time, but don't plan to visit too often with the 2.5 hour drive. If there was a local casino, I think I'd play live from time to time. Probably for the best, as gambling is a sick sick vice that can truly F with you.

I, too, like the guaranteed tourneys at Foxwoods and Mohegan. I find Mohegan's blind structure a little slower, which usually works to my benefit. And it's about 15 min closer for me (coming off of 395) so the Sat morning 10K guarantee is a good one (if a little early since I have a 75 min drive.) I play it about once a month or so. The 30K guarantee is a nice structure, too (30K chips starting, 30 min blinds) but the buy-in is a bit steep for me.
Congrats on your winnings - if I make enough to cover my expenses, I'm usually happy with that!

I think I prefer the $300 cash table over MTT.
With MTT, you are pretty much guaranteed to not win.
With cash table, you can be up, down, or break even at any time.
I like those odds much better. Esp. if you know how to quit while ahead.
