Battle of the planets:

Every week I try this in Mars or Venus.

I never do bad but I have yet to make it in the top ten.

I also only try for the low orbit because 100 is too many for me.

Anyone every play in this?

Thanks for linking to that post, I might start going for this in the 5 dollar range. Question though, do the dollar values matter for points? Can i play the $5 SnGs with the idea I won't be beaten by people playing the higher stakes within that range?

The points are the same. The only difference is the number of seats. So, 1st in a 6 handed SNG will pay far less points than 1st in a 27 seat SNG.

I don't think its feasable to do anything but play 27 mans if you are looking to make that leaderboard

I've played it from time to time. Took down a low orbit once and placed in top 100 spots a few times.

Here is a small guide I wrote on it.

Philthy, what a great guide. Though I play at these limits on Stars, I've never paid much attention when after a cash they say "congrats, you've earned [a number] points on the [planet name] leaderboard. Now I will :D

Its not really a guide. (I just re-read it). It's more of: reasons to play the BOP.

I came 15th in the High orbit Venus ($5-$10) section last week which got me $40, playing only 9 player turbos.

I ran amazingly good at the start of a block and was in with a strong chance of 1st after about 80 sit n gos, and over 1400 score already, then I just ran like utter crap and barely cashed anything in the last 20, and my score only went up to 1550 at the end :(

I don't really see why playing the 27 tournaments gives you any better chance of winning.

I think you need to run like God and be very lucky, not just play well, to get in the top 5 at this in either high or low orbit.

Well, since the 27 seats have more variance (as in its harder to place in the money) they reward you by giving you more points for your efforts.

Not sure if I can agree with that...

Not sure if I can agree with that because the top five places in the 27 mans share a total of 216 BotP points between them, while in the 9 mans the top 3 share 90 and the 6 mans 60 points. The 27 mans should be sharing 270 points to be in the same proportion as the 6 and 9 mans, therefore they are poorer value.
There would have to be a far greater ratio of bad players in the 27 mans for a decent player to overcome this mathematical disadvantage!

18 man games provide a decent chance to get on the leaderboards and I have got on it a few times playing these games with the levels we play you are always going to need a little bit of run good to hit the top positions though.

My advice is to not get to bothered about the BOP, when I first started playing the games and this came out I was always checking my points etc. Dont bother just play your best game everytime you play and keep improving and you willl get on there a few times.

I only play 27 SNGs. I Hit the final table 90% of the time and seem to cash maybe 1/3 of the time.

The reason I play the 27 SNGs is because they pay more leaderboard points.

I don't think I would be very good at 1 table SNGs.

I make the final table almost every 27 player SNG so whats the point in 18 player SNGs.

Yeah but your not cashing most of the time, which is to be expected really. How about you try the 18s for a week at least then you will have a better idea of the differences.

To be honest though I think you should stop thinking about the bonuses and just play you best game, hopefully as a side effect you will hit the BOP, but probally not most times.
