Set it two days ago for a month but I 'm struggling already. Does anyone know of any way I can get rid of this? If not just going to have to sign up for another site until self exclusion expires :(

Yea I've given up on self exclusion lol. Restraint has never been my strong point. Logic says I may as well play. I've spent all day watching HU matches on ps and reading here and 2p2. Revision was never realistic as long as I have access to the internet.

Why not discuss why you self excluded in the 1st place and try to resolve that. Otherwise you will just rinse and repeat no matter where you play.

Well I thought by getting rid of poker I could work hard for my exams. I've decided I'm going to do fine in my exams without revision anyway so quitting poker is pointless and I may as well be playing since I'm spending all my revision time watching poker and reading about poker.

Remind yourself why you self excluded yourself and make the best of it. Trust me, I hate revision as well, and I was never any good at it, but doing revision for my A2s and not for my AS's was the difference from getting BCC to ABB in my A-Levels overall. Knuckle down and do it, got good grades and poker will still be here. What's a month or a few weeks out of your life? You're still young and have ages to play poker, but only one shot at your exams(trust me you don't want to be wasting your summer holidays revising for retakes). Best of luck with them and I look forward to hearing how they go. Best of luck mate.

No you can not reverse this.

Hey Man, in all seriousness, if you have this much of a problem not playing poker for 2 days, you really need to take a deep look at this situation. Maybe you need to talk to someone, see someone, talk to your family to see of this is an out of control situation that us seriously hurting your real life.

You may need to outright quit online poker so you can live your life properly.

Please take strong consideration in my words and best of luck to you.

Never been a fan of the voice of reason if I'm honest lol. Good advice though, I suppose I really should actually do some revision for these if I want to meet my uni offers :(

It's the same i anything I do though. I used to do running at a pretty serious level and missing one day of running was compeltely out of the question. I'd read every article I could get my hand on and I had an insane amnount of knowledge about it for someone of a young age. Poker is just going the same way, do it every day and read every thing I can about it. I'd agree I need to talk to someone if I was losing money but as long as I'm a winning player it's fine.

Actually, it is not about winning or losing money (but losing your house, etc would also be an extra reason), it is about how your gambling addiction is affecting your life. Maybe you just have an addictive personality and have to work on that. Life is about balance.

I mean, you have mentioned it is keeping you from studying properly. That affects your whole life. Especially in these days, when education is more important than ever in securing extra income from a job and/or job selection, etc.

Just a shame I can't seem to get addicted to my studies lol. I suppose I do have about 10 weeks or something where I can just power my way through poker in summer.

I shouldn't think it would affect my education too bad though, I'm pretty confident I'll get AAB in A-levels without too much work would mean i could go to any of the unis I've applied too.

You can't get addicted to your studies because that is the hard work that absolutely should take priority. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying that you aren't a hard worker, but it's easier to fire up poker stars or whatever site rather than buckle down and do your studies.

Think of this month as a challenge unto yourself. A challenge to stick with something and be the best you can be at the goals you set for yourself (i.e. study hard, and get the best scores you can on your exams). For goodness sake man, have some self control! :)

Thinking of it as a challenge makes it sound a bit better lol. I think I'll try and give it another 5 days and if I'm struggling I'll download another poker client and just play 2 hours HU a day.

No doubt you're not the only one.
Pretty much everything I've done I've taken it to the extreme (ie. in my teens & early twenties I was a workout junkie, going from weighing 155 at 18yrs. to 255 by the time I was 21 (& later to 275) w deadlift 640lbs.
Another was getting into dogs... 1 dog.. 2dogs.. 3dogs '4' .. time for me to go out & get more!. Travelled around the continent, buying up dogs.. the best ones I could find (some costing $4k). Then I got more.. & more... & better & better (not just 'better'.. they had to be the BEST)

I did the same thing with school that I did with most other things... went totally overboard with it to the extent where my life was school.(all other areas of my life were suffering due to goin' overboard with school).

BlueNowhere.... as other's have already said > Poker will always be there (well.. errm.. sorta). Maybe set it up for yourself where if you acheive a certain level of success with school, then make a decent deposit so you can play some decent poker.

.. oh yah, & the underlined part is perhaps a bit of denial ??

The hardest part is the first few days....then it gets easier.as the days goes. the withdraw feeling is a natural physical addictive reaction. A break will be good for you .....once a week passes by you will have no desire to play.....try to balance out your life and do some physical exercise to replace the "rush" that you are missing ....think about why you exclused in the first place .

I already do physical excerise close to 7 days a week (may miss a day occasionally). I'm going to give it a few more days and reconsider my stance. If not I'm finding another site to play on until exclusion time expires.

Hi BlueNowhere,

As others have mentioned here, there isn't any way you can shorten your self-exclusion. If you could, that would defeat the purpose of it as I'm sure you can understand. Best of luck with your studies - the poker tables will still be there when you are ready to play again.

I dunno, the 30 day exclusion thing feels like it can be done too much on impulse only to regret it for 29 days. I thought brilliant idea excluding myself for 30 days, two days later I regret it and want to play again.

Which is the very definition of impulsive behaviour, and why the self-exclusion is iron-clad. Not to be rude, but really, do you hear yourself?

Wanting to play again isn't impulsive. I've had a few days to think about it and decided it's a bad idea not to play. Unforutnately for me I acted on impulse earlier and now I can't get rid of what that caused despite having a while to think about it.

which is why you have to click ok 3 or 4 times to properly exclude yourself. knowing you can undo it immediately is as good as not excluding yourself in the first place

Yes but when I clicked all the oks I was thinking it was a good idea. to exclude myself. I wish I'd just uninstalled ps then I could just download it and play now.

this is hilarious.

The greatest way to not act on impulse (which lets not lie to ourselves, you do) is to see how stupid the decisions you do when you act on it.

So look at this as a life lesson. Do not play poker for the month, and after that month realize how stupid your decision to not play was. That doing stuff on a whim does have consequences and that sometimes you will not have a option to opt out of them.

So after your spent a month not playing poker, realize that it was just a waste of your time. Then realize that it was your impulsive behavior that made it a waste of your time. Then grow for it.

The problem with doing anything impulsively is that it's easy to say after it was stupid but at the time it feels like the greatest idea in the world. When things are done on impulse you never take a second to think of the consequences which means it's hard to learn a lesson from them that stops it happening in the future.
