For all you in the GA area or FLA area, do you know of any good live poker spots with reasonable players and buy-in and pay-outs? Never played live so I wanna give it a shot now. I think my only thing would be keeping up with the chip count and betting correctly. You know since there will be no numbers with a button to press in front of me! lol

Live poker for money is illegal in Georgia. Home games generally go unenforced as long as they aren't too big, don't draw attention to themselves, and don't collect rake.

The only legal live poker that I'm aware of in GA are the barroom leagues like API (now Knockout Poker League I think) puts on, where you play tournaments for leaderboard points and you can win prizes and such. API has several venues around the Atlanta area and 'burbs (Kennesaw, Marietta, etc.).

Yeah I kinda forgot about the legal part. Yeah I know mostly its for points to put you in a bigger tourny and if you win enough you make it to the big league. But we have a Casino Boat near by that you win cash but the schedule is not all that great. I just wanna play to get a feel. Online is plenty enough for me as far as trying to win money.

Thanks for the repy DMorris and the info!

Yea as long as it's off shore like on one of those boats it's legal in GA. Also can go down to Jasper Florida to the Poker room there.. That's the spot I like that is pretty close..

My only real live play is in Florida. I'm up in NW GA, just a few minutes from the TN line, and TN is as bad as GA when it comes to legal poker. And Harrah's Cherokee Casino over in NC is both dry (yes, a dry casino) and has no live dealers -- it's computerized tables only.

I've thought about making the trip to Savannah to play on the casino boats but since we usually hit Florida 1-2 times a year I've just resigned myself to do that. Hard Rock Tampa is awesome btw. Also the Ebro dog track, although in the middle of nowhere and looking rundown as hell for a track, has an immaculate poker room that is actually very nice. When I'm in the Sarasota/Tampa/St Pete area I hit up the Hard Rock, and when in Panama City I go to Ebro.

EDIT: Harrah's Cherokee is no longer dry, their first drink was served on Dec 29, 2009 according to Wikipedia. But they can only serve between 7am and 2am M-Sat and Noon-2am Sunday.

Yeah I was going to say they are not dry any more.

Poker there is only on Pokertek tables BTW, so no real chips. It still plays like live poker though.

I have not been there for several months, but like playing there.

Next best is Florida, I wouldn't bother with the boats!
