Hi

As the title suggests my question is:- Anyone else have an issue with the payout structure on 888 with multi-entry tourneys?

I love the value 888 puts on in freerolls and I think their satellites are fantastic, often extra value and normally start in time for the main tournament otherwise only a few mins after which is great as opposed to sites like Stars where you often finish an hour in.

However once you win that seat in or buy direct in I find the payout structure on 888 awful because they do not base the payout structure on mutli-entries unlike sites like Stars that counts each re-entry as another placement.

I ended up in one tournament where the payout was base on 197 entrants but in reality with all the entrants it was close to 250.

The I entered one last night which had 95 entrants but really had another 29 re-entries which on some sites are countered. In then end if these players had been countered 18 would have been paid instead of 12 (I finished 16th in this). In the end they were paying less than 10%!

Obviously we all want to be hitting the final tables but I think this kind of pay-out structure is not great for most payers and if you agree I would suggest contacting 888 too.

Personally I do not like all the tournaments on the site being re-entries although some do but I find this payout policy to really not be good and it's pushing me back to Stars for tournaments which is a shame.

Playing on Party see they also count multi-entries in the payout structure so it appears it is just 888 out of the big three that do not.

I dont think, its a big issue, but I do agree, its a bit weird to calculate the payout structure the way, 888 Poker does. They are essentially increasing the effective stakes of their rebuy tournaments, which if nothing else should be factored into your bankroll management.

I don't view re-entries though the same as rebuys. With a rebuy you can normally double your stack straight away and the rebuy is expected. Re-entries are more like second life's or third. fourth and fifth as on 888. But I am often only aiming to use one bullet but if you keep having to get through many people keep getting knocked out and then re-entering but you do not count this in the payout structure it makes the payout extremely tight.

If it was not for the satellites being very good I think I would tend to avoid these.

I agree that it can improve a bit more. Details would certainly help regarding payout systems.

You can see in the lobby section for the tournaments on one of the links the payouts for different field sizes. But I thought others would find this frustrating. While your aiming to hit the top end of places it can still really affect your bankroll if the structure is excessively tight. As in the example I quoted my seat would have been paid on one of the other sites.

I try to avoid tournaments that allow multiple rebuys like you mentioned the 3 or 4th rebuy/reentry.

888 have a few tournaments that do not allow any rebuy/reentry (one is at 6:00pm EST) and entry price is low. I did not check the exact payout based on entry numbers but next time I enter it I will update you.

With rebuys you auto expect to rebuy, at least the first one to double up and keep expecting rebuys. Re-entries though you do not expect people to keep going like a rebuy. The weird thing as well is the amount of re-entries they allow, it seems excessive, and if you try and play the tournament with one entry you have less chance than someone who has entered 5 times to reach a final table.

To do not base the prize structure on this seems odd.

I have spotted these ones that do not allow re-entry/rebuy but as you say they are almost non-existent, not sure why. Went in one, absolute normal payout structure, every seat counted, great.

I have now switched back to Stars more, but still like the setup of the satellites on 888. The re-rentries do not matter with these because they account in more seats being awarded!

I think the simple answer is that 888 makes more money this way and most people are not as sharp as you and noticed the difference. It might only be a few bucks to 888 bottom line but its the principle of the cash distribution. In the the long run if you and others (the player) can make more money at Stars and move there that should make 888 change.

Thanks for the compliment! Yeah I suppose when players don't cash they are more likely to enter another. I'm still playing the odd satellite but that's it for me unless something changes in this structure. May still look at those non rebuy/-re-entries you mentioned. If more play these they may throw a few more in. It is a shame with a structure of normal tourneys as their VIP always up scheme is quite good (but does seems to plateau at level 100) and I do like their sattys.
