Cheapest I found there was $5, but lemme know if you find something like for $1. That's really all I wanted to throw away on practice. Thanks!!!

I'm not aware of any play money heads up either but pokerstars has $2 + .20 heads up tables. It's not quite the $1 that you're looking for but it might be worth considering.

Apart from that, the only thing I can think of is to sit yourself down at an empty play money table and wait for a person to join you. Then you'll get some heads up play until other people join. Then leave that table, and go to an empty table, etc. A bit of a hassle, but if you don't want to spend too much, then this might be an option.

I know FullTilt has it, but they are 100,000 min. HU SnG's, don't know if you have that ambition. Last time I checked they also had a King of the Hill type HU ring game but it was for the EXTREMELY high stakes play money limits - we're talking sitting down with 35 million, so you'd have to be pretty dedicated (probably not worth it). I'm not sure if they have added lower stake play money ring tables for HU, but you should check.

Never really saw the play money ones on Pokerstars, so can't say how much you need to play those.

bodog is the easiest if you just feel like playing, but these are cash style heads up games w/ play money. You can play with the amount of chips they originally give you and can reload when you go broke.

PokerStars has them for $1/$2 PLAYchips - under hold'em/play money/ No Limit
and
Hold'em/play money/Fixed limit: has $2/$4 tables as well
