Hi all,

Ever since I started playing at ACR I've noticed many of the tournaments have overlays, sometimes huge overlays such as in the weekly MDS. They are giving away hundreds of thousands of dollars every week, millions every year.

How can they afford this? Most other sites I've played on adjust the guarantee when it is not being met regularly, but this happens every day in many different tournaments on ACR. I can't imagine it's a good business model to give away such huge sums of money every week and it makes me suspicious of the site. There has been a fair amount of talk online about cheating, colluding, superusers, etc.

Does anyone have any insight?

It's rigged...

:)

If you think about it, they got some free advertising by you talking about it here right? Is it really that bad of a business strategy for a site that's trying to gain more market share by creating a buzz?

Haha...I don't think it's rigged. I know people are cashing out. But there have been a few controversies with some online poker sites as we all well know.

What do cheating, colluding and superuser activity have to do with the ACR business model? ACR is trying to gain market share, and that is expected to eat into their profit, nothing out of ordinary there. I don't think they like to bleed money into overlays, but what alternatives do they have? Cancel the tournaments with overlays, offer less guaranteed tournaments, both of these alternatives pretty much guarantee a stunned growth business wise. The cheating, colluding and other unethical behavior is player related and has nothing to do with the overlay situation.

I get it, the big guarantees entice players to the site. I've never heard of anyone having trouble with cashing out on the site, quite the opposite in fact. Also, I've been impressed with their customer service, it is much better than other sites I've played on.

I think in order for ACR and BCP to become the number one poker site, they need to proactively address the issues of unethical player behaviour. I see they have taken steps in this direction, hope it continues.

As others have stated, the overlays induce membership. Got to pay to play!

The people at WPN are playing the long game too. They have a leading foothold in the US and probably have plans to stay that way.

Poker sites gave away more millions per week during the poker boom. If they get you in the door, they can get you to whip out your wallet.

One million for them is like a penny for a regular person... Don't worry, they make money.
