anyone know the odds of my pocket aces getting busted by Ace King off suit? Only online would my opponent hit a straight on the river. Full tilt is not on my happy list right now.

I believe your odds pre flop are about 92% to win the hand pre flop. I am asuming that you both went all in pre flop. If he was 1 card to the straight after the flop like say Q,J,8 flopped then you were about 83% to win after that flop. If he only hit one of his straight cards on the flop like Q,8,2 then you were about 98%. After the turn when he needed 1 card to hit his straight you were about 91%. Here is the thing, yep thats a bad beat. You got railroaded and it sucks. A lot of on line poker players will call an all in or even go all in on A,K they dont know what you have, most of these hack players dont even care. They just see Moneymaker go all in on A-K and they do the same. If you were head to head your getting called almost 95% of the time by A-K maybe 99%. If you were playing big money poker someone might lay A-K down but Maybe not. If you were in a small buy in tourney or a small cash game these type of games have many suckout players and theres no way they would even think about laying A-K down. 92%!!!!!! You had him smoked. Sorry DOOD. It happens to us all A,A is one we all lose on from time to time, but I wont lay it down pre flop EVER not even the first hand of a tourney Its odds are just too good. Keep playing good You'll get em!!!:wavey:

Sammy, are you saying that you should call with AK? If not with big slick then what? QQ or higher? That's pretty tight. Especially for a tournament.

Just the opposite, Four Dogs. ESPECIALLY in a tournament would you strongly consider laying down AK offsuit to an all-in bet. If the other guy is holding 22 and you don't catch an A or K, you're beat! AK is the single most misplayed, overvalued hand in poker. Without help from the board, it's high rags. The #1 rule in tournament play is to survive. Unless you're in a rebuy tournament, calling an all-in with slick is very thin ice.

Absolutely right, Sammy. But one thing to consider as the hand moves forward is the number of players in the hand. If you're heads-up against one other guy, you've got a monster. But if three other players stayed in after the flop, it's pretty much a lock that the other two Aces are sitting among them. In other words, your AA can't improve. So, if the threat of a set appears on the board, beware. You have to be able to toss those bullets aside if it looks like they've lost their value late in the hand.

Ok. In a money game, unless the better is way short stacked, I'm gonna let AK go. In a tournament however, these are exactly the chances you have to take to accumulate chips early on. AK is a huge underdog only to AA. It's only a slight underdog, 55% to 46%, to any other pair below KK. If you assume the worst on every hand, your playing way too tight in my opinion. If your just trying to crack the bubble then fold to his probable medium to high pair but you'll never make final table unless you hang your ass out in the breeze at least once.

Some real great points Rammer Jammer.

Here is another thing to consider about calling an all in pre flop with A-K unsuited early in a tourney. If your on the button and first pos. goes all in and there are two callers before you there is no way I am calling the all in.(Remember this is early) I dont want to blow my whole $100 buy in on a hope that I make a hand early. A-K is a great draw hand And with 3 people all in before me I have to think one of them has Aces or Kings. A big reason most amatures go all in pre flop is so they can't be outplayed. The crazy cards and suck outs that come in net poker are a big reason to fold these in this situation.

And that, in a nutshell, is what makes poker so great, 4dogs. I subscribe to the "sit tight, wait on big pairs, pick your spots" survival mode of tourney play. You prefer to engage in riskier hands early on to build chips for later. I say later doesn't matter if you're out of the tournament. You say later doesn't matter if you don't have any ammunition.

Doesn't mean either one of us is wrong. Fortunes have been won and lost playing both ways. What other game of strategy, skill, and chance contains more gray area than poker? Gotta love it!

AA vs AK suited

All I can say is 3 words. Hope and pray. Cuz that is about what you are going to have to do. But look at it this way, you might as well have that than any other pokcet pair besides AA.

How precient. I busted out against AK in the freeroll tonight. Placed 6. Just missed the payout. That guy should have folded.

the other day at fulltilt i got pocket aces on the very first hand of the tourney, some jerk went all in berfoe me with a 3 of clubs and an 8 of hearts, so i naturally called him, when i saw his cards i said this is a sure win, guess what, their was a 3 and 8 on the flop and he beat my aces and i was out the very first hand>>>he got lucky but he should have NEVER gone all-in with a 3 8 offsuit or even if it was suited its not an all-in hand, but the jerks do it and get lucky.

Something like that has happened to pretty much all of us. If it is in a freeroll thats life another starts in 5 mins. If it is in a buy-in tourney for anything but a $1 or $2 then that is a different story.

You're right, fubar. When something like that happens to me in a $5 or $10 buy-in tourney, it's not the end of my bankroll. But it DOES feel like someone walked up and snatched the money out of my hand. And that sucks.

Anytime I have pocket AA on party poker I always lose. I have not won once. One time I had them someone else had pocket 3's and flopped there set.
