A poker dilemma

Hi all on cardschat. Im new here and I want to start a little discussion

And well whats my dilemma then. Well basicly I want to know whats your take on uttd ( under the table deals) and whats the risk on playing on deals like that?

Im doing that on a pretty big site and I know the guy promoting it very well and know he wouldn't screw me anytime. But still is it worth it and am I doing anything wrong and risking anything?

Reason why I play on this is that well I get like close to twice the amount of rake that I would on a normal deal. Im missing out on rakeraces and stuff but still its alot more profitble I think.

Well would be nice to get a discussion around this adn exuse my english Im from sweden

I dont have any personal experience in this (BTW, to all who are wondering, this is referring to rakeback deals where the affiliate pays more than the norm (something they do on their own and are NOT supported in this by a poker room) not dealing cards under the table..... or I hope it is anyway lol)

If you google you can find a number of sources of information - like with anything - but AFAIK you are at the mercy of the affiliate, and according to you "he would screw me anytime" then that is what you are dealing with. Since you are already linked, then good luck. But if he goes out of business, takes all the RB and goes on vacation, whatever, you are SOOL.

Well I now like I said he would take money and leave. And its not dealing cards under the table its how you described it.

And I mean I know how it works and stuff with the deal so dont have to google.

Is anyone here having good/bad experience of playing on theese kinds of deals?
I mean its very comon that people get refferd by friends that offer them better then a normal affiliate

and anyone that had bad experience with bigger affiliate sites?

I think the main point here is you have no protection against someone abusing you. Some people have good experiences and some have bad. No one else's story will change whether your affiliate can be trusted or not. You have to go with your gut and any info you have. What you need to find out is anyones experiences with exactly the people you deal with. Look at it like a car mechanic. Just cause your neighbor used one across town who was great. the reliability of the one across the street is totally unaffected by that.

It makes a difference to his sexual satisfaction, but we still don`t know about his trustworthiness.

I concur.

I am reminded of the time I was introduced to a Swedish lady at a party. I speak no Swedish and her English was very basic, so we struggled to make conversation.

She said, "My husband is gone".

I didn`t know whether she meant the poor chap was deceased or that he had gone to get a coffee and, since the appropriate response would be very different in either case, I was a bit stuck as to how to continue. :laugh:

I spent a bit of time in Sweden. The statement "My husband is gone" basically means, uhhh, well, ......... if you cant be with the one you love, love the one your with......................

(BTW, I did spend time in Sweden, but I think "My husband is gone" really means something like.... my husband is currently existing in a different physical plane then the one in which we presently find ourselves.....

but it COULD mean anything....)

Just when I think I couldn't possibly hold you in higher esteem, there you go proving me wrong. Good man, ET, good man.

People keep telling this guy that he is taking a risk dealing with this affiliate, but we also take risks dealing with poker sites. No, I'm not saying they are necessarily going to screw us, just that there's nothing stopping them from doing so. What are we going to do, travel to Gibraltar and hire a Gibraltari lawyer to sue pokerstars if they suddenly say "Sorry, we are just going to close your account and keep all your money because we feel like it." Hardly. So let's not delude ourselves about trust being a huge factor in making any poker deposit in the first place.

In fact, this affiliate who wants to do a special rake deal might be EASIER to sue than PokerStars would be because he isn't located in a foreign Wyatt Earp and Judge Roy Bean territory and doesn't have $100 billion in resources for legal fees.

I'm assuming by "under the table" deals you are talking about receiving rakeback through an affiliate on a site/network that isn't supposed to allow rakeback deals. You will basically be at the mercy of the affiliate as they can halt/change the deal at any time.

What exactly is the deal?

Well basicly Im getting alot higher rakeback then I would if I had a cashback deal on there. Depending on how much I play but usually like 55% becuase Im a pretty big raker on there

This makes it seem like a VIP deal rather than under the table. There's many smaller sites that give large %'s back if you are a high volume raker. Especially if it depends on your volume, it's very likely legit. As long as the affiliate you are going through is legit, that is.

I think its a privilege given to you by your affiliate. Well, if you are confident that you can rely on your affiliate then go for it. Games online may take many forms and you will have to take different level of risks, but the bottom line is that, "are you earning lot from here?" then if yes, go for it. As long as you are covered by the affiliates rules and regulations, then there is no problem after all.

How difficult is it to get away from an affiliate if you are getting screwed over by them? Are you always just at the mercy of the affiliate? (ie. let's say for example I sign up to a pokersite via a poker forum because they're offering $xx montly freeroll & some 'cash-added' weekly tourney (or something of that nature), then they cease holding these games. Am I left being stuck with them? (unless they agree to let me go?).
I'm not sure how it all works, hence why I'm asking here on this thread.

Also, it kinda sucks for players who are just getting started out online & are completely unaware of the ins & outs (ie. poker forums, etc.), have no clue about the large ass't. of deals out there, rakeback, etc. I know when I first began playing I had no clue (heard about my first poker forum while goofing around in a freeroll on AbsolutePoker) & I immediately signed up on a couple of the bigger/better sites & got stuck with Nothing! (only to discover later that there were a ton of different offers out there).
