Hi Everyone,

I currently have $3.88 after having opened a new account at 888. I have only played freerolls, a few blast games and an 11c rebuy. I have been reading up on Orsini12's excellent thread on his daily progress through the freerolls but he has a distinctive advantage in that he is already a lvl 70+ player and has access to a greater # of freerolls.

As you can see by the current post count (21) I am not yet eligible for the CC freeroll and just reached lvl 5 two days back. Ideally I would like to play $.11 MTTs or Sit n gos but I don't see many options.

My options atm are:

  • Playing freerolls (jackpotfreerolls in particular)
  • The daily $.11 $150 Gtd R/A
  • The twice daily $50 Level 5+ freerolls
I have two main concerns:

  • Are there other games I am missing out or should be focusing on?
  • How best do I climb the elite club levels?
Thanks, Dims

888poker offers sufficient amount of play at low limits. Decide in which format you are good at and play it.

building a bankroll

Play the Vegas 1000$ tourneys as well, they are free. I play the 10 seater sng's
regularly. If i start to lose i go down to the 1 cent 60-seater sng's. I have managed to reach level 18 without depositing a dime so far. bit of a grind but to me it's a past-time and i enjoy it. good luck to you! And, of course, keep posting to qualify for the cardschat freeroll club.

Sorry I couldn't reply earlier. I hit the max 10 post/day limit

I noticed this but I didn't play it cuz I am a below average sit n go player. But I tried just one after your post and I came in first, so that's a cool 20c profit! hahaha!!!

 I made 2 stupid mistakes. One I had the 3-6 player check box disabled by default in the sit n gos. I never noticed the 1c 60 player game. Then I ignored the Vegas tourneys cuz they were highlighted in pink. Thought they had special requirements from the regular blue and white highlights. So much thanks for pointing these out

This is a huge confidence boost. Because I read the points are awarded based on 1 point / 1c rake. I will keep plugging away.

I made a deep run in the level 5+ $50 Gtd (2/2692 players) and netted $2.30. My balance at present is $6.37. Thank you all so much for the much needed help and encouragement. It really makes a difference being able to talk poker with folks, given I have no one in my part of the world to talk and ask advice on these matters.

kind regards, Dims

I am at level 68 with the goal of hitting level 100 one day. The 3K Vegas free rolls most people don't know is you can buy the ticket for ten gold tokens. One game I have tried to beat on 888 is the blasts only way is to hit big multipliers otherwise be lucky to breakeven.

Holy cow! That sounds like a hell of a steal compared to the 90 points for a $1 MTT. I'm going to give this a shot today. Thanks! :D

I also would suggest the Sit&Gos, they have them at all levels. And still keep playing the freerolls of course. I also started there like this. Well i deposited a few at the beginning over the poker strategy account. But with this I managed to grow a bit my bankroll. I even cashed out some so far. Therefore, keep going. Play the small limits, play the freerolls and start to level up, when it is time.

Alright man, the fact is, that your bankroll of $3,88 is way too small for a good MTT at 888 Poker room. (And probably at any other poker room.) As you have more variety on the long run, your bankroll management should be more conservative at MTT as at STT for example. Standart values are 1-2% for buy-in of bankroll total for MTT and 4-5% for STT. So as you see .11 is a little bit too much already. I know it sounds boring, but i highly recommend to stick to this about. You don't want to loose it all quickly and that's what it all about. Playing more freerolls is a smart way for sure. It's experience for free and a chance to build up your bankroll a little. So you better look the best of them and try to play as much as possible. And only since you built up high enough bankroll, you may try some of STTs or maybe MTTs, depends on what do you like more.
The other thing is, in my humble opinion, while choosing the game you play, try to find one with longer blinds. Maybe many players will disagree with me at this point and say: "Dude, i beat the turbos, like nothing else! What the hell are you talking about?!" Alright, maybe some are really good at turbos and have some success. But obvious fact is, the shorter blind levels are, the less opportunities you have to watch your opponents and trying to get advantage on em. Or just simply having a good card or combination to raise your stack up. And especially super-turbos.. i do really hate them. They look like lottery with cards to me. It's not much time to play poker there, before you have to shove it, cause your stack is too short. Well i think you got my thoughts about it. ;)
So let's see what we have at 888 about such segment. For STTs it's $0,40 10max, which have 8 minutes blinds and the lowest SNG, that are "slow enough for good game". For them you need to have at least 8$ in your bankroll.
For MTTs, it's $0,50 non-turbo games. Even better if they are deep stacked. However for those one you need to have at least 25$-50$ bankroll.
You see it's not that easy to start instantly with MTTs and having a good poker.
So i would say, train and enjoy MTT at freerolls and grind lowest SNGs for the beginning, when you can efford it.
However have to say there are some other options like stage SNG games. Where you could win a $0,10 ticket paying only $0,01. They have nothing to do with a good poker game, as they are short stacked and are turbo too. But they are really cheap.
Don't miss any freerolls, especially with a good value. Never know when you have that deep run again.
Cardschat freerolls are really great one for growing your baby-bankroll up. Make an account at poker stars too and to not miss any event.
There are so many opportunities to play for free to get some money actually...
There are CardsChat freerolls + events + social media game; Jackpot Freerolls with leaderboard at the same named website. There are Poker Stars School with their league freerolls and Scratch & Match game. There are many freerolls running all day at NetBet & tigergaming.com
I would also create an account at many different poker rooms to keep an eye on their promos and freerolls, so you don't miss any opportunity to grow up your bankroll and play higher. But every time you make an account make sure you will inform yourself, where you find the best affiliation program, that fits you for that website. So you gain the max value of it at the end.
Hope my thought will be helpful and will help you a little bit at your poker career. Good luck at the tables! And have a strong discipline and patience. It's still a long way to stars.. ;)

'Double or nothing' is also good :)

The $.11c DON was my bread and butter after I lost my bankroll at partypoker. The min buy-in I noticed is $0.40 @ 888, which with my current bankroll is now a viable option. Thanks for pointing it out!:)

I also would suggest the Sit&Gos, they have them at all levels. And still keep playing the freerolls of course. I also started there like this. I consider myself a below average sit n go player, despite the only win from one attempt @ 888 so far. I'm scared of risking my bankroll considering my bullheaded tendencies. I did play the higher variance blast out of desperation earlier and was able to make a small profit while earning the level 5 on their loyalty program, which qualifies me for their entry level freerolls.

I'm afraid I don't know what CIS is. This is the first time I'm hearing of this. Can I assume this refers to Sit n gos?

Thank you for taking so much of your time answering my initial post. It took me about 2-3 months to get it above a 2c bankroll but It's been relatively rapid progress since I got the level 5 and can participate in their freerolls. I watch out for any and all freerolls very diligently through this site. I also have registered at jackpotfreerolls and play all their tourneys on the 3 sites I have accounts at. I will bide my time till the 18th of this month (1 month of consistent posts) and try to rack up as many quality posts as I can to qualify for the cardschat freerolls.

I actually follow the more conservative 1% of my bankroll for MTTs (I had built one to $200 @ partypoker through MTTs only) but I didn't know the STT buy in rule. I consider myself a terrible cash game player and a below average sit n go player. Because of the success I have at MTTs I focus on them wherever I can. The buy-in is relatively massive in proportion to my stack but if I can find a deepstack slower game I'm pretty confident about my ability to crack the top 15%.

I've only play the $0.11 buy in R/A @ 888, but unlike the R/As at partypoker, this gives you 5K chips, blinds @ 10/20, ante 2 and 6 minute jumps. Plus I don't rebuy or add-on. Strict rule I can't afford to break atm. Just today I was 450+ of 500+ players but I made 62/674.

I try, as you've recommended, to avoid playing turbo shortstacked, high blind crapshoots because of the huge variance. But I will try 1c satellites (like I did with partypoker) once I hit above $10.

I started playing the pokerstars league (elementary) more seriously last month and I hit 67th for a $4 cash prize and entry to high school. I had no idea about the cash for the top 500 players until I read about it last month. So I missed out on some golden opportunities earlier. I am also disappointed because I could've cracked the top 50 easily too (only 13/15 results contributed with 9/52 games remaining). I thought games ran till the 05th and not the last day of the month.

I only reactivated my PS account and opened a new 888 account late last year. But I was focusing primarily on my bankroll at partypoker. Now I'm seriously devoting time to all 3. Participating in this forum is part of that seriousness.

I learnt about the affiliations the hard way (seeing how much more value I could've gotten otherwise). I haven't focused on clients outside the big 3 (party, PS & 888) because so many others have restrictions on country of residence regarding their promos and gameplay (for e.g. the $88 free dollar promo at 888 didn't apply to me sadly, after going through their T&Cs very diligently) Besides knowing that these guys are reliable at cashing out is key so I will primarily focus on these guys for now. But I am keeping an eye out on the forums for news and promos on the other sites and will watch see if it's worth the time and effort playing on another client.

I now have $8+ so I will try sandund, whiskers77 and your advice on the $0.40 STT, especially after you pointed out the 8 min blind levels. This is news to me. Maybe I have a terrible image of myself as a losing STT player after playing so many turbos when I started player poker.

Thank you all so much for the invaluable constructive feedback and positive reinforcement. This is my very first experience in a poker forum and it's been a really wonderful experience so far. :)
