25% vig = unbeatable long term (?)
Try the 100 person SNGs on UB, where the house take is 10% like it should be.

Here's the thing. I must give an analogy. My senior highschool class had about 100 students; all male. Suppose one day they said, "everybody put a dollar in this pot. We are going to have a 100 meter race and the top 20% will each take $5." I would have gone home with a dollar less. Then, the next day they said, "Everybody put $1.25 in this pot. We are going to have an 800 meter race, first gets $50, second gets $30, and third gets $20. With the other $25 we are going to hire a cheerleader for the next game: you guys look terrible in those outfits." I would have gone home with $30. I couldn't sprint, but was the second fastest half-mile or longer racer.

This $1 + $0.25 had double starting stacks. I think my long game is my strength. The extra 25 cents gave me enough of an edge to take sixth. If I had joined a Ferguson, I probably would have finished out of the money. I consider this training for deep stack games. Look at the starting stacks vs. blinds at wsop. When I retire, about next week, I will have time for a six hour tournament.

If you want to consider the cost of 'training' fine, but I don't think the deepstack gain can out weigh the extra 15% vig you are paying long term. Please also note that the deepstack $5 on FT has the reasonable 10% rake, so start playing those as soon as your bankroll allows.

I'm stuck in the same position at the moment - trying to build a bankroll from freerolls, and $1.25 games are about the only option I've got (the start time of the Ferguson tourneys doesn't work for me over here). So I'm very much looking forward to being able to play something with a more reasonable rake.

I'm guessing it's just a strategy Full Tilt use to encourage you to deposit more / more often?

I am not stuck playing $1 tournaments. I have plenty of bankroll deposited for a $20 or $30 tournament at the 50-100 buy-in suggested. I just don't presently have the time to properly concentrate on tournaments, so I have been playing freerolls, donk-n-go's, and cheap ones like the $1-$0.25 because they are fun to me. True, winning $650 (my highest win so far in a fpp freeroll) does stay with you longer than winning ~$0.65 (what I did tonight in a forum freeroll), but, a win is a win. I agree the vig is uber high, but it is only an extra 15 cents, which is NOT going to break me. No matter what I spend, it is cheaper than what you have to pay to chase a little white ball around the pasture. But, overall, I have about a 2000% return on my initial deposit a few years ago. I can't do that with a golf club! Gain is secondary for me right now; it is just the scorecard and means to continue. Fun is primary. If I really get good, WSOP entry is not economically out of my reach. I suspect it is skill-wise out of my reach, though, unless I want to be one of the ones out in the first fifteen minutes.

I looked for the $5 deepstacks and couldn't find them on FT. The only deepstack tournaments I saw were $500 and $1000. I know there are $10 and $20 ones on the weekend on PS, but I am concentrating on FT right now to learn my way around, which is what the deposit bonus is meant to encourage. When are the $5 ones?

I have not joined UB yet; waiting on completing the term of deposit bonus on FT. Don't want to spread my bacon to thin.

I have a really dumb question. What is "vig"?

Vig is short for vigorish, the exorbitant interest rate charged by bookies, loan sharks, and by Full Tilt. :icon_porc

Right above the $1.25 ones (?):

Those are only double stack. I meant super stacked. See the three bar under Tourney Types? I was hoping to find a $10 or $20 super stack like on PS. Even at the $500 level, the blind times are only 15 minutes on FT, 30 minutes on PS. Both have 5000 chip start stacks. But, yes, the ones you pointed out have only a 10%fee. I will promise to play only those from now on, just 1/5 as often. Now, don't go searching the tournaments to see if I comply.

They have $1.25 superstack tournaments? I've only seen the 90-player double stack ones

That is what I was saying. The only superstacks I have seen on FT are $500 and higher. On PS there are $10 ones. I don't think PS has double stacks.

i dont think full tilt has many of the superstacked tournies. theyre either huge buyins or rare occasions, usually both. its a shame too bc i'd like playing those tournies.

You can see why they're rare though - in the time it takes you to play one superstack tournament, you could've played two regular tournaments and payed twice as much rake.

For what it's worth, B&M casinos are pretty much the same - unless you're paying premium bucks, tournaments will have relatively short stacks and fast levels.

Right, no one dollar super stackers on FT.

Here is Star's deepstack MTT schedule.

25% vigorish? ugh.

That's why I don't play the 1.20 hold 'em sit n gos at pokerstars. I stick to triple draw and omaha - which are both a much nicer 1.10.

Granted, ten cents doesn't really matter, but it's just the principle of paying that much rake in comparison to the buyin, I suppose.
