![]() Mac Poker ClientsMac Poker Clients - The online poker mac world is absolutely on fire. Over the past few years online Poker sites have been sprouting up left and right. In the commotion of the all the growth, one group of Poker players was left out in the cold—Mac users. Your humble author is an avid Mac user and a long time Poker player. Over the years I have noticed many Mac users crying and complaining on Poker forums about this dilemma. Finally, Windows users had something to cheer about—they had an edge over Mac users in the online Poker arena. Mac Poker SoftwareWhat was a Mac user to do? Well, one solution was to buy a very inexpensive Windows machine from Ebay or other discount outlet and use it just to play Poker. For most Mac users this is not only extreme, but a sacrilege as well. Another solution was to purchase Virtual PC for the Mac—more on this in a moment. This solution could be more of a problem than anything else. Still, the fact remains; Mac users have very few online Poker / Mac Poker Software / Mac Poker Clients options. Two online Poker rooms that every Mac user should know are Absolute Poker and Full Tilt Poker. There is little doubt that both of these online Poker sites are loaded with Mac poker software users from around the globe. Mac PokerFor those that don’t know, Virtual PC is a piece of software that allows Mac users to set up a Windows machine on their Mac. The virtual machine runs in its own container and is completely isolated. Sounds like a dream right? The problem is the resources it requires. Unless you have a new Mac with solid processor and 1 gig or more of ram, Virtual PC will be very sluggish. Still, it opens up all the online Poker rooms out there. However, the option of multi-tabling is completely out of the question. Before you know it, the sluggishness of playing Poker via this method will get on your nerves. The delays also reduce your reaction time when playing. One day I could not stand playing via the Virtual PC method anymore and I decided that I would either have to quit playing Poker—shudder—or buy a cheap Windows computer. So, I began the process of searching for a Windows computer. Later that day I was reading about a poker bonus opportunity at a place called Pokerroom. I decided to check it out since I would be buying a Windows machine soon. Much to my delight they had an option that allowed me to play Poker on my Mac. They offer a browser option, which allows anyone to play Poker without downloading and installing software. It was pure heaven. However, there is a downside—for hardcore Poker players. Since you are playing in your browser, the system does not offer full statistical recording. Still, the browser method of playing is nice and smooth. It was a real godsend for me. For Mac users not wanting to buy a Windows machine just for Poker, PokerRoom.com is a great solution. Personally, I can live with the loss of stats. Mac Poker Software - Shortly after this event, Full Tilt Poker made a huge announcement for Mac users. The Mac version of their software was now complete and ready for free download. Like any serious Poker player who was going through Poker option withdrawals, I quickly clicked over to Full Tilt Poker (with the appropriate poker bonus code / Full Tilt Poker Referral Code in hand) and downloaded their Mac Poker client / Mac Poker software. The download was really quick—it’s only 8 megs. The software installs in moments and runs very well. New users have the option of just observing the action and software. Of course, most Poker players have heard of Full Tilt Poker. So, if buying a computer just for Poker is out of the question, these two Poker sites are great options for the Mac Poker player. There is always the Virtual PC option for those that must have more choice, but there is plenty of action between Absolute Poker and Full Tilt Poker. Hopefully other US online Poker sites will stop shutting out Mac users by not offering an alternative and finally release Mac Poker Software. After all, the most intelligent people in the world are Mac users. Return to the Poker Strategy Articles Contents page. |
