Two Initiatives to the Legislature are now official.

Initiative 582 authorizes and directs the WSGC to license and regulate intrastate internet poker. Provisions in this measure require operators to have a physical presence in the State of Washington, though it does not require they have a land based casino. It should provide for a competitive market place, where both Tribal and non-tribal interests can offer services. This is a bold first step forward for ipoker in WA State.

View the full text of I-582 here http://sos.wa.gov/_assets/elections/...alText_433.pdf

Initiative 583 removes the penalties on players participating in internet games. This not only drops the felony provisions of the current law, it does not replace them with civil fines. While this measure does not make internet poker 'legal' in WA, it takes the players out of the legal quagmire of gaming enforcement. Passage of I-582 makes this measure moot.

We need all members from Washington State to step up and lend a hand in this effort, it's the only way we will succeed in getting the law changed. It isn't going to change itself. Hit me up with a pm for complete details.

The petitions for I-582 and I-583 are available online. We are asking players to download the PDF files and have copies printed at a local print shop, such as Fedex/Kinkos or the UPS Store. Print 20 copies of each and get us 200 signatures, it's a great start. These pages need to be printed full size at 11" x 17" so you won't be able to print them on your desktop printer.

We will be mass printing copies later in the month, but players can help by paying for some copies now and getting started.

Check this page for details - http://waipokernow.blogspot.com/p/enlist-in-fight.html

I live in Tacoma WA.And these laws do not make any sense to me at all.We just passed Initiative 502 which legalizes weed, bud, pot whatever you want to call it which i have no problem with because i am green friendly;) But we cant get these ignorant politicians to make it legal to play online. I think it has alot to do with the local native owned casinos because of the money they think they will lose but the goverment needs, to wise up and realize the revenue it can bring the state, just like they did with Initative 502 i will continue to do my part to see that it becomes legal here.I dont like the thought of going to prison cause i like to play a little cards. So get ur SHHH together Washington state.

We encourage every resident of the State of Washington to reach out to your respective State Representatives and Senators and encourage them to take a look at I-582 and I-583, and consider supporting these measures for the benefit of the people. Unless they otherwise from their constituents, they may go on thinking that an outright ban and criminal penalty is in the peoples' interest. It is up to us to make sure they know that a regulated market is the only way to get rid of the underground market, and the best way to protect against problem and underage gambling.

We have also identified some key lawmakers who have demonstrated a willingness to stand with us in the fight to change the law regarding internet poker. An extra effort should be made by all to let these legislators know we appreciate the stands they have taken, and encourage them to support our effort with these Initiatives.

Rep. Jeff Morris (D-40th)
morris.jeff@leg.wa.gov
http://housedemocrats.wa.gov/roster/rep-jeff-morris/
@TheRostrum

Rep. Morris voted against the current law. We should thank him for that stand and encourage him to not only support I-583, but to look closely at what I-582 has to offer as a way to bring internet poker legally to the people while still maintaining the protections for the people of the State of Washington.

Rep. Bruce Chandler (R-15th)
chandler.bruce@leg.wa.gov
http://houserepublicans.wa.gov/bruce-chandler/
https://twitter.com/votechandler

Rep. Chandler voted against the current law. We should thank him for that stand and encourage him to not only support I-583, but to look closely at what I-582 has to offer as a way to bring internet poker legally to the people while still maintaining the protections for the people of the State of Washington.

Sen. Janea Holmquist Newbry (R-13th)
Janea.HolmquistNewbry@leg.wa.gov
http://janeaholmquistnewbry.src.wastateleg.org/

As a State Representative, Sen. Newbry voted against the current law. We should thank her for that stand and encourage her to not only support I-583, but to look closely at what I-582 has to offer as a way to bring internet poker legally to the people while still maintaining the protections for the people of the State of Washington. She could be a strong ally in the State Senate.

Rep. Dave Upthegrove (D-33rd)
dave.upthegrove@leg.wa.gov
@DaveUpthegrove
http://www.facebook.com/upthegrove

Rep. Upthegrove voted for the current law, but he has co-sponsored two bills to take the criminal element out of playing internet poker since. We should thank him for those efforts and encourage him to not only support I-583, but to look closely at what I-582 has to offer as a way to bring internet poker legally to the people while still maintaining the protections for the people of the State of Washington.

Rep. Sherry Appleton (D-23rd)
appleton.sherry@leg.wa.gov

Rep. Appleton voted for the current law, but she has co-sponsored two bills to take the criminal element out of playing internet poker since. We should thank her for those efforts and encourage her to not only support I-583, but to look closely at what I-582 has to offer as a way to bring internet poker legally to the people while still maintaining the protections for the people of the State of Washington.

Rep. Ross Hunter (D-48th)
ross.hunter@leg.wa.gov

Rep. Hunter voted for the current law, but he was a co-sponsor of HB1824 in this session. We should thank him for those efforts and encourage him to not only support I-583, but to look closely at what I-582 has to offer as a way to bring internet poker legally to the people while still maintaining the protections for the people of the State of Washington.

Rep. Paul Harris (R-17th)
paul.harris@leg.wa.gov

Rep. Harris was the sponsor of HB1824. We should thank him for that effort and encourage him to not only support I-583, but to look closely at what I-582 has to offer as a way to bring internet poker legally to the people while still maintaining the protections for the people of the State of Washington.

Rep. Chris Reykdal (D-22nd)
chris.reykdal@leg.wa.gov

Rep. Reykdal was a co-sponsor of HB 1824 this session. We should thank him for that effort and encourage him to not only support I-583, but to look closely at what I-582 has to offer as a way to bring internet poker legally to the people while still maintaining the protections for the people of the State of Washington.

Rep. Monica Stonier (D-17th)
stonier.monica@leg.wa.gov

Rep. Stonier was a co-sponsor of HB 1824 this session. We should thank her for that effort and encourage her to not only support I-583, but to look closely at what I-582 has to offer as a way to bring internet poker legally to the people while still maintaining the protections for the people of the State of Washington.

Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon (D-34th)
fitzgibbon.joe@leg.wa.gov

Rep. Fitzgibbon was a co-sponsor of HB 1824 this session. We should thank him for that effort and encourage him to not only support I-583, but to look closely at what I-582 has to offer as a way to bring internet poker legally to the people while still maintaining the protections for the people of the State of Washington.

Let's all reach out to each of these listed legislators and let them hear our voices!

Players in Washington, you can download the petitions for I-582 and I-583 as a single PDF file here - http://www.fileden.com/files/2013/4/9/3434944/4page582583.pdf The PDF above is four pages, be sure that page 2 is on the back side of page 1, and page 4 is on the back side of page 3. It must printed on two sides, with the full text of the Initiative on the back side. Also, Be sure to have it printed at it's full size of 11"x17" on good paper. Petitions printed at 8.5"x11" will be rejected by the State.

I moved to Oregon from Washington just to continue playing online. Hopefully they lift the penalties for playing so I can move back to Washington.

Even with Federal legislation, Washington State law must be changed before we would be able to participate. Initiative 582 is written with very few statutory elements, leaving implementation largely up to the Washington State Gambling Commission.

Should a Federal bill be enacted after the passage of I-582, more than likely only adjustments to the rules implemented by the WSGC will be required, meaning no further legislative action.

I-582 also has a severability clause, so if any part of it is affected by Federal Law, the rest of the measure remains intact. This is especially important in the unlikely event Federal Law is enacted first.

Regardless of what happens at the Federal level, I-582 is still a very much needed change in State law, so that we can play for $$ once again.

You can send prefilled tweets to Washington State lawmakers from this page . . .

http://wai582.blogspot.com/2013/05/send-pre-filled-tweets-to-state.html

The current message is displayed at the top, and I will change the message one or two times a week. The links remain the same, so use them to let Olympia know we want the law changed, and our freedom to play internet poker returned.
