It's Official - Republican Platform anti Poker Tempted to rant, but I'll let their own hypocritical words speak for themselves. Note: they do not call for outlawing lotteries, betting on horse-racing or fantasy football they only want to restore the previous interpretation of the Wire Act. Rest of platform here if you have the stomach for it. http://www.gop.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/2012GOPPlatform.pdf Last edited by dakota-xx : 29th August 2012 at 8:02 PM. But it would be nice if they spent less time trying to control everyone's life and more on fixing the real problems we have. It's too bad the nanny-staters have hi-jacked the party poker so that fiscal conservatives have to hold their noses and cross their fingers to vote Republican. They claim to want to appeal to women and young people, I don't see this platform as a way to do it. I also hate hypocrisy--but that applies to both sides. What we need is a viable third party poker and throw these bums out.

re: Poker & It's Official - Republican Platform anti Poker +1 CYA There are much more important things to worry about with the RNC platform. Among which is a complete ban on abortions regardless of rape, incest, or a woman's health. I hold little hope for legalized Poker from people with such narrow minds.

make the internet children friendly.... if only they'd invent some type of parental controls (oh wait) Yea we definitely gotta stop kids from downloading and playing a card game for free, seeing as how kids cant deposit without stealing from parents (which is far more serious) Nevermind if they stumble onto a (100% legal) sites showing a woman being violated by a horse or sites with death footage. I can see how poker can be much more traumatizing Just like any other site showing mature content, there are age restictions. Underage exposure should not even be involved in the debate edit: Don't let kids stumble upon poker sites and become poker players when they grow up. Let them stumble across porn and become pornstars.

I can't imagine a future for the children of this country if this platform is the way that their parents think. Individuals first, then institutions. Not institutions restricting individuals. They must want to institutionalize the country. Bad idea.

Like everything else which president sits in the WH does not matter. You have to get this through congress and those control freaks with their casino buddies are not about to let you have some good old fashion American fun. No way no how.

re: Poker & It's Official - Republican Platform anti Poker This is certainly not the death knell of our fight. It's unfortunate that so much ignorance still abounds about poker and it's clear distinctions from other forms of gambling, but it just means we must redouble our efforts to educate our leaders and the public in general. Neither can it be cause to jump on the Democratic Party bandwagon, for even if there is no anti poker plank in their platform, they are no more engaged in our struggle that the GOP. We should just take this as an indication that there is more work to be done, and continue the fight with positive attitudes. We still have heros in the GOP and we need them there, we just need to earn the support of some more

My parents had some problems with a credit card company 7 years ago, was looking up on how to deal with them when i ran into that. The credit card company could not prove that the card was their's, they did not even have the SSN that was used on file. Quote:

I will eventually read all posts here - and I swore I would try to stay away from political posts in the forum, since the views swing so broadly in both directions - but it is an amazing thing to see. American politics in the present state, and especially the American support of politicians. How Mitt Romney can be seen as a "savior", its like science fiction..... And how more people cannot feel as Dakota does, I cant understand. It IS easy to NOT want this guy in the most powerful seat in US politics..... Yet so many seem to want it.... (where is the "scratch my head in wonder" smiley?) |

Yep, that is an issue with me as well. Never before have politics, or my political views, been such a dividing factor in my family. The hard part for me is, when asked my political opinion, I try to just get away with "hey, lets just vote in the booth and get along here". But, no, I cant seem to. I know some family members are totally on the other side politically, and they seem to be aggressively pursuing the conflict in discussion. The weird thing is, we are many members on both sides, and the Republican side - at least in my family, sadly enough - is more aggressive than I have ever experienced..... and not really willing to live and let live..... real weird and sad |

Yep - I had to stop a conversation with my brother because his views were scaring me - and I could tell he had no respect for mine. I don't want to change my opinion of him and vice versa so I guess it is a discussion we just can't have.

re: Poker & It's Official - Republican Platform anti Poker How anyone can support either one is beyond me unless it's a case of the lesser of two evils. On the credit card thing, I had to sign for my son to get his first card and it had a very small limit; so even if he had maxed it out, it wasn't life changing.
