I've been playing in micro tourneys for a couple of years know and decided to start playing every day.I feel things are best learned through experience. The only problem is I work full time and don't have the bankroll to play in any tourney,so if I wait three hours for the ones I can afford and I do well that's another three 1/2 to 4 hours, that would leave me no hours for rest which I need for my job,so I started playing cash games a couple of days ago thinking it would help me on the weekends when I play tourneys ,only things is I feel like my game is changing and I'm not sure it's for the better, although,I'm starting to win at cash it seems more like a business, all opinions welcome am I hurting my tourney game by playing cash.

Well I think a little... In cash games mostly you play with same players all the time but in tourneys your opponents changes (~every hour) and you can't always know your opponent playing style.
I think you just can get little experience, but nothing more...

Cash games and tournaments are pretty much 2 different games. Cash games you should be deep stacked at all times, so you'll have room to play post flop. Whereas in tournaments the increasing blind levels means at some point you'll be short and in push fold mode. Going deep in tournaments usually means winning flips at some point. If your looking for shorter games to practice for bigger tournaments on the weekends you should be playing Sit N Goes.

Everyone chooses what he better and more comfortable to play, before playing for real money, now only tournaments. Come and play here and there and you will discover that for you the better.

From my experience it wont hurt your tournament. don't worry about it. I think tournament play will hurt your cash play more than anything. But cash game will teach you to play better in the early stages of a tournament when your stacks are deep. but Once the blinds get big and short stacks come into play and you still have a deep stack you have to know how to adjust to the short stacks and because the blinds are so big you will want to steal blinds if you have a big stack. but early stages when the blinds are not worth stealing it will help you it will be similar to cash game especially in the deeper stacked games. Just know that you will have to change your style once the blinds get bigger and you will do fine.

Improving your cash game would improve your tourney play, but you have to know the differences in how people play on cash tables vs tournies. Cash tables, you have the ability to walk at any time, so there is no immediate need to play long term. Being better at any poker will always have its advantages, but the styles vary in terms of how to play each hand.

Experience is never a bad thing, the more hands and situations you see, analyze and discuss will improve your game and understanding of the game. You just have to realize the differences between games MTT, ring, SNG, STT, DoN, or whatever.

Each game requires a different strategy and something you should do in a MTT such as shove short stacked; may not be what you should do ins Ring (such as shove short stacked)-(You shouldn't be short stacked in ring).

Cash games in concept are great for your post flop skill.
If your a winning cash player you should not have a problem accumalating chips early on in a tournament.

Likewise if your a great tournament player when it comes to accumalating post flop Cash games should be something you can excel in.

there will always be players looking to take bigger risks in a tournament and you will not always have an easy time playing post flop but all that post flop experience is very healthy for you man

I think playing any form of Holdem will help you improve your game in all variations.

Cash games focus a lot on post-flop play which is the key to winning there, so in early parts of a tourney where the stack to blind ratio is much higher you should have an advantage as there is more room for post-flop play.

I would like to thank everyone for there comments ,as a matter of practice I will play them from time to time, but after a few hours a day for a week now I don't find the cash games near as compelling as tourneys ,I see why people multi-table now. It's just not as profitable at the low stakes for the hours you put in.Would much rather win one big tourney than grind at the cash tables, but to each his own.

People Multi-table for multiple reasons 1.) as you said to make more profit per hour the more hands you play the less variance plays in your overall results.

People will multi-table MTT's for the same reasons to overcome Variance and more profit
