What are your thoughts on using SnG strategy in MTTs ?

I have been thinking of this for sometime now, i just have to ask.
So would it be a good idea, or bad idea to use SnG strategy in MTTs, or ring tables?

Using sng strategy for mtts is not a good idea according to me...
Cause in sngs u can stick to one style through out, but in MTTs its VERY IMPORTANT that u change gears at different stages of the game...
So, i think its probably not a good idea to use same strategy for both..

Absolutely a bad idea. The only real place you can use any SNG strategy for MTTS is on the final table. If you try to use a one table strategy during a ring game or mtt, I think you will be shorting yourself of opportunities to either add to your stack in MTTs, or take down BIG pots in ring games.

I don't think it's bad to play real tight early in trnys, but if you're not getting the premium cards, you might have to take a chance with cards you wouldn't play normally. The problem with that is, normally, there will be a big stack just itching to call you just because they can. I think playing a little looser early might pay off if you can double or triple up for a later run for the big money.

I think in ring games, if you follow sng stragety, you're just giving away money making opportunities.

Look, poker is poker. 90% of the game is the same (fold an overwhelming majority of your hands, raise with good hands in good position while making bets according to your chip stack and other variables, yatta yatta yatta...). So much of S&G strategy is going to overlap MTT strategy.

But no, playing MTT's the way you should play S&G's is not optimal. It's even worse in the deeper stacked MTTs.

I do tend to play the same way on ring tables, it works up to a point.

Rings are different because your stack to blinds ration is greater. That is, you need a bigger hand in rings to justify going all-in, because it costs a lot more.

Also, the nature of tournaments is that you *need* to bust people out. It's live-or-die, so taking risks is justified as that's the only way to survive to the money. In rings, you can sit back a lot longer because the blinds don't go up and you can reload, and you can make $ without anybody ever being felted.

The big adjustment in tournaments is keeping track of your M (Your M is the number of rounds you can last before being blinded out.) and making plays appropriate to that M number.

That is, with an M of 30+ you're playing normal poker. With an M of 10 you're looking to double up. And with an M of 6 you're basically in fold/shove mode hoping to steal or double up.

There's a lot of in-between stages to those and certain hands become less playable. For example, I'm folding T/J with an M of 8, but when my M is 5 and nobody had entered the pot I'm shoving.

ok, in 2NL i can raise 5x the BB, still get called, if i hit the flop i bet the pot.
I am working on playing MTTs, i am starting to get it now, try to steal the blinds when i can.
I think i made a smart move, when i was playing a 45 S&G, well more like a MTT I folded AJ with 2 to act after me, and i'm glad i did the button had AK..
