**Weekly Discussion Topics Thread - Tournaments and SNGs** We all know poker is a complex game and there are always areas in our game that we are unsure about and need to work on. Here is your chance to work on those unclear areas and what better way to learn than group discussion? So heres how this is going to work. You suggest the topics that will be discussed, and at the beginning of the week 4 or 5 of the topics which we think will be suitable for discussion will be voted on. The one that gets the most votes is the one that will be discussed. This thread will focus on topics concerning tournaments and sit and go games. Whether it be NLHE, LHE, PLO, O H/L etc, 6 max, 9 handed, Heads up, turbo, non turbo, shoutouts etc. If it is a tournament situation, feel free to post in here. Also, topics should be more advanced in nature, not going to have any discussions on what the correct play for JJ is. Remember this thread is only for topics, not for actual strategy posts. The first selection of topics will take place on Sunday, the discussion thread would start on Tuesday. 1) The person whose topic is chosen to be discussed will have to kick off the discussion thread. 2) That we need volunteers to help keep the discussion lively and on the right track. (I'm thinking atleast 2 per topic). Last edited by dakota-xx : 4th January 2010 at 7:47 PM. Reason: added for marginal

For example I wouldn't mind having a discussion on limping vs raising in the early stages of a sng. |

I think choosing 3 or 4 topics of varying 'difficulty' would be great. You could have novice - "limping v raising", intermediate - "ICM", and advanced - "6-betting for value" (read: "god knows someone who knows more about poker than I do come up with something for this please") or something. Suggesting "3-betting ranges from button vs from SB" (I've been meaning to make a thread on this for ages) and "OOP river play - bet/folding vs. check/calling" as intermediate topics (although I guess the topic is as 'advanced' as the discussion makes it, heh). Some more general stuff on river play would be interesting too as it's often overlooked now what with shorties infesting the games and all.

re: **Weekly Discussion Topics Thread - Tournaments and SNGs** poker I love the idea of spliting it up into different difficulty levels. Seems like we colud get a lot mor discussion that way. One thing though, I do not think that there should be an advanced level seeing as non of as are probably at that stage yet. Posting from iPod touch this morning. It is so awesome.

seeing that the fold AA issue has arisen so many times lately why not have a discussion on that topic. i also like the ICM topic, limping vs raising is also a great starting topic. i know it is basic but hand selection vs position would also be one or are these suggestions way to basic of issues for this .

i don't mean to jump off track here, but bear with me a moment. when we do these weekly discussions on a topic which btw i think is a great idea and a easier atmosphere to get more regulars involved in strategy. Is there a way to clearly log these weekly sessions to the content in them .to use as a reference to n answer to someones question down the road. for example we do a weekly discussion on just for example fold AA (and i know we are not it is just an example) 4 weeks from now some new uneducated fool starts a thread on folding AA we could briefly explain where to go for those types of questions and provide a link to that weekly discussion then have the new thread closed solving the spam magnet and also answering the op with as little effort as possible.and as politely as possible. sorry about the diversion from your OP marginal

My suggestions are all based on large field <$50 MTTs, as thats what i would play and the topics I think would make discussion are: 1. 3bet sizing/timing 2. C betting Vs delayed Cbet 3. Restealing 4. preflop raise sizes pre and post antes 5. Satty strat 6. Meta game and table dynamics discussion 7. Discussion on right mentality and mindset of MTT regular (for players wanting to start playing MTTs) 8. Survival Vs Accumilation early in MTTs 9. As mentioned ICM 10. BRM regarding field size (for 6,9,18,45 and 180 man and for MTTs with like 360+ runners) thats all I got right now...great idea thogh guys. TD

Monthly plus making the actual chat threads sticky imo. I always struggle to find these threads in amongst the others whereas if they were at the top of each page they would be the first thread i checked out each time I came into the forum... It is a great idea. I think the best idea would be to have a subsection of the strategy forum with monthly threads. One general SNG (take the monthly SNG thread from the Learning Poker forum), one general cash, one specific tournament topic and one specific cash game topic...

Top Donk has a very nice list... I would like to include two more topics on MTT's in that list: 1) Final two table play 2) Final table play. I know these are topics covered in various places--I know EgonTowst did a nice final table thread. But we can expand on some or all of the ideas relating to the most important point of MTT play-because thats where the money is. Great idea. looking forward to this. Especially bringing up points in books as well to discuss certain hands. Yes, very keen on this.

i disagree [quote=pifan;1372632]yea the aa thing should be left out it is too basic but after reading the AA thread people really have no clue about the topic yea i agree the one liner NEVER FOLD AA PREFLOP pretty much sums it up lol. wrong heres a situation your in a 9 handed sit an go short stacked on the button there are four players left an the third place pays 120$ the big stack at the table places a bet that will pull any one all in. an another person gos all in with him. would you call with aa or would you dump it an see if the big stack wins with no risk. i say dump it calling here could cost you 120$.

Welcome to CC, menace! If the $120 is more significant to us than winning the STT, then yes, dump it. That probably means we're playing over our bankroll, though, or that we satty'd in, if we're short stacked we're not going to get a better chance to triple up and play for first. This topic has been debated to death recently (hence the comments about the one liner), if you're interested you might want to use the Search function.
