Turbo tournaments hello folks....for those that play the TURBO tounaments...... please let others know.... and for those who dont know what turbo means it's either 5-10 minutes blinds. or like 1,000 - 1500 starting chips the more time u take....the faster the blinds go up..... the at the end....ur force to go all in with just about anything to stay alive!!!! then....it's not poker anymore!!! it's just roullete or something.....spin the wheel....and it'll land on the winner...... THERE'S NO turn and river then!!!! that's just for attraction...... the dealer minus well just turn all 5 cards open at the same time!!!! there's no BAD BEATS!!!!!...... cause all u're doing is saying this 2 cards in my hand it gonna beat ur 2 when that 5 cards open on the flop!!!!! THERE IS ABSOLUTELY no poker playing!!!!!......but i mean when ur at the bubble and ur short stack.... yea......no choice to stay alive and steal blinds..... but come on.....in the beggining of the game people are doing that all-in preflop szit...... and then when they beat some one with 10.3 off against pocket kings cause flop and river 3..... they think they're REALLY doing something..... then here comes this bad beat story about how he flops a set and the other guy gets runner runner WHAT runner runner.....there was no betting in between!!! LOL pass this on......and see if it makes sense

I accidently entered a satellite into the 5k guaranteed on ultimate bet the other day. It said ultra turbo but I did not look any further to see exactly how ultra turbo....lol...when we were seated I got 500 chips and the blinds escalated every 2 min. It was sooooo scary and felt like a heads up tourney cos everyone just seemed to be going nuts!!!! End result was that I managed to win a seat but will surely check out the rules abeforehand in future cos I was so would up after this satellite! I will not be playing any of these in the future.

I like Turbo SNG's. The thing is not to panic. Just play a good game. I don't worry if I have $1000.00 chips with 4 left in a 9 hand game (3 cash). Let the others play stupid. I like the the Turbo games because of time. I do not have the time I used to have to play MTT's and regular SNG's. The Turbo MTT's do get crazy in the end but if you play a good game you will be a winner. It is just like everything else in poker. You have to understand that everything evens out. I think they are fun if I only have two hours for a MTT!

I don't really like tourbo games but I play the freeroll ones so I have nothing to lose.I don't go all-in though like most of the players do in the first 10-20mins of the tourney.Never cashed in one I mostly play the Ferguson on Full tilt never made it to the $1.

re: Turbo tournaments poker I don't really understand anything from the Original Poster, but I really like turbos because they force you to make quicker decisions and to find your spots wisely. Although, I like playing the higher buy-ins because, well, just like any other tourney, the lower the buy-ins, the more people who don't care if they lose everything pushing on a 10-2off on the first hand(granted there are some of those people in the higher limit as well).

Well, in a way you're correct. This is how all tournaments get after a certain point. It happens faster in one table SnG's, but even in MTT's you're going to very quickly get to the point where you are not playing much postflop poker. This is because tournaments are a different beast than cash games. They're about recognizing opponent's hand ranges, being able to discern profitable opportunities to steal blinds, re-stealing, 3betting, and making +EV shoves. All tournaments become this way eventually, turbos simply get you there sooner.

I play most turbos for single table SnG's. A shootout is going to occur in any SnG when the bubble hits, turbo or non-turbo. For MTT's I prefer to stay away from turbos. For superturbos. I have played a few of them and that's all-in or nothing. Been-there; done-that...no thanks.

Turbos will make your palm hit your face at outstanding rates. There is a huge luck factor in these and be prepared to drive yourself crazy. However some people are really good at these. So try a few of each at low limits and see which play style suits you.

I disagree- I think there's just as much skill if not more so in turbos.. Unless you get great cards, then you have to be very aggressive and have to be able to steal and bully - as well as working out when you have to call even though you know you probably have the worse hand If you're an agressive player, then turbos can be more profitable than the normal mtts/ sngs- if you prefer to sit back and wait for good cards, then dont go near them!

yummy these are my favorite rather then having too play 1 hr or 2 in a 10 man sitngo this usualy speeds it up to 30min and gets very intreresting and nail biting very fast id have too recomend this to people who are like myself like too get things done quicker gl if you havent tryed these out yet give it a whirl beware though because theres a super turbo or something that i accidentally joines and i was going all in with in 2 min.gl all

actually , every beginner would think the way you think..its a luck/donk-fest in the end....but think a little harder, you will realise, thats exactly what happens in each and every tourney u play..it eventually goes to luck..the only difference is luck plays a bigger role as you keep increasing the speed of the tourneys..and poker=skill+luck , its your choice which game you wanna play

When beginners ask me about turbo tourneys I always advise them to stay away from them. Turbo tourneys are not real poker and teach players to bet with hands they should not be betting with. Give them a miss and stick to the slower paced games.

re: Turbo tournaments poker This is all mostly true about turbo tournaments, but i disagree that you have to go allin with almost anything. If you are a good player, you can always wait for the right opportunity to get the pots and make the right raises, by using the information you get form the other players in your advantage. By knowing the situations people are put in turbos, you know that a lot of limpers exist, and if you wait for the monster, hell you could win a loot... but i mean a looot of chips. Turbos are some of the best money making tournaments, and might even require more skill and disciplin that normal tournaments.

Basic STT Turbo Strategy. This is by no means approaching a comprehensive strategy. Just some basic tips/guidelines to get the feel for how to play these. Basically start out very tight and step up the agression a notch with each blind raise.. fall below 10BB's and you push/fold according to ICM strategy. Once we get IN the money, we want to play for 1st, if we play tight to try to move up to 2nd we're going to get pushed around and get knocked out in 3rd most of the time anyway. And most importantly a big % of our ROI comes from our 1st place cashes. The exception is if the other two players are playing extremely aggressive.. we can then tighten up big time and try to get our chips in with a big hand and wait for one of them to knock out. All Stages: - If stack is less than 10BB's push or fold (ICM) - Trap with big hands (except to protect against draws in multi-way pots) Early Game: - Raise with premium hands - Limp in late position with small pairs/medium+ suited connectors - Do not trap often postflop at this stage except with nuts/near nuts Middle Game: - Open up range a bit - Keep agression up - Start occasionally stealing blinds if players in blinds are somewhat tight Bubble: - Steal frequently from CO/Button/SB - Re-steal frequently from SB/BB if Button/CO are aggressive - Isolate small stacks and try to get them in when holding premium hands, any PP, suited broadway - Open up the above range if they are very short stacked to include suited aces, suited kings, most suited connectors Late Game (post-bubble) - Play very aggressive - Call short-stack pushes with about anything short of unsuited rags - Trap with big hands My ROI at $3 STT Turbos on pokerstars is good.. I've made over $100 (profit) off of around 50 games (somewhere between $1.50 - $2.00 profit per game) I may expand on this into a proper article if anyone's interested. edit: The amount of misinformation in this thread is alarming and they are almost all conclusions made because of bad results from bad turbo strategy. this has really made my decision. I'm going to post a comprehensive guide to STT turbos with a nice big section rebutting all of these horrible misconceptions. Look for this article in this section later tonight or tomorrow. "Turbo tourneys are not real poker and teach players to bet with hands they should not be betting with." <-- wow just wow Last edited by spore : 2nd April 2009 at 7:54 PM.

turbo tournaments arent 100% luck, its ok that the blinds increased every 5 minutes however if you are patient and wait for a good hand, you chances of winning will increase... in the beggining of the game people play all in??? well IDK, also in normal tournaments donkeys push all in in the beggining of the tournaments, however some people do that cause like the blinds increase quick, they wanted to have lots of chips to play more confortable at higher levels.. IMO i dont really like those tournaments al all, maybe in sit and goes, but if i have to choose i preffer the normal tournaments... |

Turbo's are for people who have little time, or for some who are relatively agressive. Maybe even through in their those agressive-player-catchers. I often see a loose strategy being taken in these games, although mine is none of that sort.
