| A Tip for Free I play a lot of live poker tournaments, nothing in Vegas, just local ones. Charity and some casino satellite events. I do OK, I have a positive ROI in $50-100 buyins. The thing about live is that I have reads because you see the same players over and over. They have reads on me. When I sit at a live table, I know that I have reads on 4-6 players. Online is different, as ChuckTs has pointed out. Cash, SNGs, tournies.. you can play 50 online tournaments in a day and come across 4-6 players that you've seen in another tournament. So ... I am a purist and I don't use programs to track the tendencis of other players, and I realize that in some instances that puts me at a disadvantage to those players who do. I saw a video on YouTube exalting the "crutching" you can do with Poker-Edge. It's a black hat program that datamines poker sites and gives you a HUD full of tendencies of other players. The one thing poker-edge does though, and this is the tip, is that you can simply type in your screen name on the splash page of their website, and get your overall tendency... yes.. you guessed it, you can type in any player you want and, if they have played at any length on a poker site that they cover, you will get a free determination of that player's style. You will get the preflop and postflop rating. For example a Loose player who call's a lot and doesn't bet their hands and can never be bluffed out of a pot is labeled: CALLING STATION, Loose, passive/passive Others are Green Fish: passive/passive Red Fish: aggressive/passive Calling: station passive/passive Bomb: aggressive/aggressive; no discipline Warning: aggressive/aggressive; bets when ahead Mouse: passive/aggressive Rock: aggressive/aggressive Shark: aggressive/aggressive you will also be told whether a player is Loose, semi loose or Tight. you won't get anything else unless you get the program, but I am telling you, this is all you need for tournaments. For those of you who multi-table, this might be cumbersome to do. But if you play cash games one table at a time, this will help you, too. If you play SNGs or tournaments, sit back and have this website open and while you're waiting for position or good cards, or whatever, type in the players at your table, Note what poker-edge says about them and then watch if their tendencies match.. it's rather eye-opening, especially the calling stations and the "sharks." Color code each player's type for easy visual reference. Once you Note a player, it's there for good. Last edited by juiceeQ : 23rd January 2009 at 6:39 AM. Reason: removed link |

| Wow, this is very helpful information to know. never underestimate what computer programs can do. There are also cheating programs , I'm not sure if all cheters have been caught. I play on UB mostly but other sites as well. Some cheaters were caught on Ub they use to work for ub and it was sold , but they had a program to see you pocket cards. that sucks, anyway you never know what you are facing on line. Good luck at the tables. Tina |

You are a 'purist' but here you go into detail telling us about your colour-coding sytem while using a restricted data-mining system?? Also, style/stats. are not filtered so you may be getting an incorrect read on your opponents (ie. could be based on short-handed tables, or even possibly HU if that's what they predominantly play). | re: A Tip for Free poker Oh yah... yes I am familiar with the different player classifications and names they have used on there,... used their descriptions to gain better perspective on classifying playing styles on the tables when first getting started online. I prefer something different of my own.... just taking notes on some key stuff and have a list of things I take note of for each of my opponents... will often label them as well but find for me.. Maniac, Calling station, Nit, TAG, & LAG are sufficient. Personally if I were you, I'd read over the fine detail on the poker sites and then wouldn't go advertising my use of this. (PokerCrusher is another... most members on here I'm pretty sure are aware of all of these sites). |

| lol, I don't see how this is any different from datamining or using a hud, except this is less detailed (generalized (and often inaccurate) player styles rather than street by street stats), and it's illegal on most major sites. I'm curious why you think this is any more ethical. |

| Yeah, got the same results. I searched myself at Tilt since haven't been playing there long and know that I've been playing the same kind of game. I play pretty tight if not that aggressive, when I look at my stats during a tournament (I don't play ring) I might be 19/12, 15/8...I played 7/5 the other night, haha. Don't think that fits into the calling station category. Last edited by D'wilius : 21st January 2009 at 2:05 AM. |

That said, having played with you, I wouldn't think your agression factor would be much under a 2. The information on that site is only somewhat accurate imo. |

| I offered tip #1 I guess they thought I was "spamming" for P-----E---- and I stated it's a black hat program in my OP. Black hat = Illegal. Going to a website and typing in a player's name is not... Sharkscope, Official Poker Rankings offer the same interface input to gain information on players. I don't use the PE HUD.. I simply type in the name of my opponents at my table on their website THAT IS AVAILABLE TO ALL PLAYERS ... and I create my own color coding for me. That's just a huge difference and you all know it... so quit brow beating me. |

SS and OPR track Tournament results. Edge/Crush share HH from there user to acquire stats on opponents. How is that the same? |

| re: A Tip for Free poker Actually this thread is getting closed now. It was opened on the heels of the other thread that was closed and was only done so to continue the discussion that was supposed to be stopped when the other thread was closed. Edit: I've merged the two closed threads into one since they are the same discussion continue even after being stopped. |
