Does anyone use an Excel Spreadsheet to track how they finish in tournaments to find out what games / how many players / stakes you are good at? Do you think it would be beneficial to use such a set-up?

Keeping stats is always useful, but it will also depends on how you use them. Knowing ones strengths and weaknesses when it comes to different stakes/players would be great. Like say you place itm 20% of the time at a certain stake with under 200 players, but then when the number of players increases to 250+ you drop to 10%...you could then figure out which tables to play at and so forth.

I use google documents to track bovada since OPR can't. Problem with filtering for field size is it takes a long time to get a sample size with any real meaning. It stands to reason that smaller fields means less variance. I mainly just track for ROI %.

I made one in about 5 minutes that works really well for what I want it to. Keeps track of my buyins, winnings, players, ITM, place, %finish, and I have running totals/averages for each category. Works perfect for me :)

Because my time is worth more than the $15/year cost for this tool that I have no hope of duplicating in a spreadsheet.
