SitnGo start of game with 9 players (play money), JQ suited 9 people left (play money game, top 3 get play money), average stack (2nd hand of game, everyone has 1k chips). I raise to 4x BB (160 chips) with JQ clubs, and I get two callers. Then, flop comes 9h, 6h, Qs. 1st person bets 4x BB (160), and then I went all in with my remaining 840 chips. Both other people call. What did I do wrong? Is it safe to expect someone to have AQ? or something better ? Out kicked possibly? I'm not saying I won or lost, just wondering if my correct move is to call the 4xBB of his, raise all in, or what? I'm just wondering what would have been best for me.

You probably would have not had nearly as many, if any, callers had it been a money game. Because play money means nothing, people don't give a crap what they are holding to push all-in with because they could get lucky on the turn and river, and why not? If you lose then you can just go reload and do it again, and again, and again...

To the OP, JQs in play money or cheap tournies or freerolls is a fold preflop hand in the early stages, unless I don't care how I finish. In late position it could once it a while be a raise, then fold to most flop/aggression from opponent combinations, but most times it's just a fold. The early part of any tournaments like this is just staying out of the way waiting for the worst players to either knock each other out or at least reveal themselves. Not exciting, but practical. |

I would not have played that hand that early in a real tournament. What position were you in? Assuming you are attempting to play the play money like real money, I'd have waiting for a stronger hand and certainly better flop before I started making moves. -Raymond

You were probably in early position, raising to 4xBB with JQs in that position doesnt look correct.I guess you were ahead on the flop but since its playmoney game, people wouldnt care losing their chips so they called with craps and turned or rivered you...

If its the second hand in the game, well i expect 4BBs to be very little compared to your whole stack. Going allin like that is first of all puting you at risk of losing the tournament to someone with Ace Queen, or not even that, someone who calls with King Queen, and i assure you they will call your bet if its a play money tournament. Your cards werent good enough to raise with anyway in the beginning of the hand, they are good to call with. Hope this helped.

re: SitnGo start of game with 9 players (play money), JQ suited poker I assume you were in mid position when you raised. Early stages of a game, just started, you dont know much abot the other players, I would say it was a very aggresive raise with QJ even if they were suited. Cances are somebody, because it was play money, called you with A rag, possibly A and a high kicker. Play money makes people do things they would not do in a cash game. Do not get too hung up on trying to work out a strategy from a play money game.
