Shoving all in vs calling an all in

This is just my observation. I have no facts or numbers or test trials on record. All this is is my opinion. Late in mtt's there comes a time when it basically turns into a shove or fold situation. Sometimes a 3BB raise if you are in position. To me it is a lot easier to shove all in than to call an all in. What I mean is this.If I'm on the button to a folded board and I have a playable hand it easy for me to shove with that hand. Vice versa if I'm in the BB with AJ and the cut off or button shoves. I would most likely fold my AJ.He might very well be shoving with any playable hand. But in order for me to justifiably call his all in I must have a shove hand. For example we have all been in this situation. You are on the button to a folded board you have 9,10 you raise 3BB. Any decent player in the BB would fold ace 9 and below. He might even show you that he layed down ace 9. On the other hand a fish might just blast all in with ace 2 and proudly show it to you like I had you beat. To me it is just a lot easier to shove than to call. My hand standards vary extremely from shoving to calling. Is this normal winner mentality. Depending on my stack size I might reraise if I had a playable hand to see where he was really at. But only if I could afford to lose those chips because I would not call a reraise from him. You're referring to the gap concept. Presuming you're fairly short-stacked in BB and button shoves/raises folding AJ is ridiculously bad. Oh and if you raise 3BB anf BB has A2-A9 a good player shoves over your raise, I don't know why you thought a good player would fold those hands, folding those would be horrible.

If you are sitting in the BB and you have A with 23456789 and some one raises you the standard 3XBB. You are saying you are going to shove all in?

Well sb v bb or button V big blind. If we are late in tourney to the point where people are stealing and fairly shortstacked I shove any ace, any king, a few Qxs type hands and some suited connecters.

If you are extremely short stack in the BB and you have the mentioned ace rag you have 2 options do as you say go over the top and pray he folds, or call then shove after flop either way yes you are going to play your ace rag then but not if you all have even chip stacks. To make such a move would be ridiculous. Not everyone that is raising from the button or SB is stealing. But if they are my policy is let them steal. I'm not going to sit there and raise and reraise his reraise my ace 2.

Your question was late in MTT so it's presumed that stacks are small. I don't pray he folds because our equity is fine vs his calling range. Only Stop n Go in SB, don't try and do this in BB. The idea of calland shove any flop is that we're OOP. Late in a MTT people should be raising ultra wide from SB or button when it folds round to them, to counter that it is a 100% correct to shove wide and treats Ax as the stone cold nuts. Sometimes they will have AA but you don't play against a single hand, you play against a range of hands and Ax is doing brilliant against that range. Sometimes we will be dominated but it's a highly +ev move. If you showed me any situation late in a MTT you could do calculations that would show shove >>>>>>>>>>call/fold

Here I tried your suggestion I knew when I did it I was losing The only reason I did it was the in laws were headed over and I had to get out of it any ways. This probably is not a prime example as his preflop raise was pretty big but the player was really loose that's why I did what I did. I had to sit out anyways so I experimented

He did say late in a tourney which this wasn't and short stacked which he wasn't right? Where does this hand fit in other than wow what a BIG raise the CO made. Sort of reminds me of the AK in the BB hand you posted. When someone raises and odd amount and it makes me stop and wonder that usually makes me let it pass, no matter what the math tells me.

And with defending blinds, it depends if it is someone abusing the situation and what the stack sizes are of the thief then pick your spot.

but if a big stack bully at a short handed table is sitting in the cut off and shoves vs. my AJ ... i don't know, i might be liking that situation ... my luck he turns over AQ, but i think i'm moving in there
