Pros

I have played in some 4 to 5 dollar tournaments with lots of people in these tournaments. Once in a while you will get a pro in this tournament. Luckily or unlukily sometimes the pro will be at the same table as you. At FullTilt at least you receive a bounty if you knock out a pro. The bounty is the buy in of the tournament. Do any other poker sites also give a bounty for knocking out a pro? Well anyway when I have been at the same table as a pro I don't know how to play against him. I have been trying to mostly stay away from him unless I have a great hand. I understand that other players try to knock the pro out almost every chance they get hoping to get their bouonty back. How should you treat the pro, as a regular player, a player that is much better than you, or just try to stay away from him at all times?

There are a couple of the other big sites that have bounty tournaments for pros. I know I have seen them on UltimateBet.

As far as how to play the pro. Don't be so quick to be afraid of him/her. If you have a good hand, play it. Treat him/her as any other player. I wouldn't get too involved in a hand unless I knew it was good, but depending on how I am playing that night, that could be normal anyway.

Only the bigger sites have a collection of pros that play on their website. Full tilt and pokerstars are the only ones that I have seen so far with a bounty on specific players.

However, you will find pros at higher stakes at the less common poker sites. I've heard they prefer them b/c: 1) People aren't specifically seeking them out to take them down, and 2) There tend to be less donkmania at other sites.

I've never played a pro, but from watching them on Poker After Dark, they seem to (compared to regular players) go all-in less often preflop, like to check the turn, and prefer to be the one to push if they think they are going to get all-in. They also play a wide range of hands preflop. This probably relates to the other pros being less likely to go all-in preflop.

But, and this is a big but, that's how they play other pros. They may play totally different against amateurs. Particularly because, compared to them, everybody is scared money.

Well the reason that they are less likely to go all-in preflop is because that is generally bad poker unless you are shorter stacked, unless you have a reason. Online, you have people going all-in with QJoff just because there are two face cards.

Was that the shirt that says "I busted a FullTilt Pro" or something like that on the back?" I have gotten a few shirts from UB and AP for tournaments, but I haven't gotten one for busting a pro yet.

yes ,i knocked out a pro at fulltilt poker,and it has a picture of a donkey with boxing gloves. i am a member of another forum that gets pro's in lots of thier small stake tourneys. all you have to do is find them at a table and politley ask if they would like to play in your private tourney. many of them will .

Might be a good idea for some CardsChat tournies, it might add a little excitement to the game, and also that could get some of those pros to possibly become members to the forum. I couldn't do any harm to ask if anyone has the chance to, right?

That is not true. Going all-in preflop is a strategy used by several different types of players. Gus Hansen, according to his book Every Hand Revealed, uses it to avoid difficult post-flop decisions. It is a strategy recommended by several authors for neutralizing the advantage of better players, who are likely to outplay a weaker hand on later streets.

I was not meaning that it is not a bad strategy all together. but many players that are not experienced will push all in with damn near anything(Any two face cards, Ax, high suited connectors) in the wrong areas of a tournament, namely the beginning. It is a very useful tool if you know when to use it, but many players simply do not, that is what I was talking about.

btw...Every Hand Revealed is a great book.

Eventhough the bounty is tempting, you cannot let that influence your style
of playing that much. If the bounty is only the buyin then i mean why did
you enter the tournament in the first place? If you wanted to only win your
buyin back, go play a cash game! This is for the big prize so dont go
spending all your chips just to have a shoot at the buyin. Anyways, you
should treat him like you would usually treat a good player... Analize his
moves, know what he is capable of, and dont try any risky moves with
such a player cause if u get read, your literally dead.

The only time that I would really point a pro out and specifically aim for him would be if he had a very low stack and I had an above average stack, then he put all of his chips in and it folded around to me. I migh do it there just because it may not jeopardize my stack drastically and I could get that extra buy-in(possibly T-Shirt) for the effort.
