MTT HUD Review Videos

Hi guys and girls. Basically, I've had a couple good runs in some PS MTTs (check the rail requests section to have a look) and a couple of people have suggested I make a video of an MTT I'm in. Instead of recording myself playing some long 5 hour+ MTT, I went over a tournament I played yesterday on HEM and picked out some of the key hands, good and bad.

I don't claim by any stretch of the imagination to be an amazing poker player at all, but if someone can learn from anything in here then great. Also, if people want to discuss certain plays or rip me apart for certain plays or whatever, feel free. I can learn just as much as anyone else from this. Also, any questions, feel free to ask.

I should also say, apologies if it's a bit dull, this is the first time I've done one of these, but if anyone has any suggestions on things they'd like to see or what not, let me know and if I can, I will do it. Also, sorry about the sound quality, my voice has come out kinda weird too and apologies about the old man wandering in the room at the beginning of video 4!

I consider myself a decent MTT player, but this will be great to give me some idea of how to review/study my sessions. I was trying to develope a routine, but never figured out a good way to do it. So hopefully this gives me some good ideas.

Good to hear! Just don't sit there talking to yourself! And if you have any input on how any hands were played, good or bad, I'd love to hear it.

Couldn't help but watch a few. lol. Two quick questions: Do you own a chimp or monkey that makes a lot of noise? Or do you just own the noisiest chair in the northern hemisphere?

Loved what I have seen so far btw. No comments on hands as I am trying to work as well.

EDIT: I hope that didn't sound like I didn't agree with your play, because I think you played each hand well and with purpose. If there was something easy that I didn't agree with I would have said something...just saying.

Hi, I've watched the first one and all I can say is, you did a pretty good job here (play and video).
Especially your comments, the reasoning, your thoughts about the hands you show, I think are valueable.

Yeah, I was on my sofa with my laptop on my lap and the microphone is built in so it picks up a lot of excess noise. I could have painstakingly gone through frame by frame and removed backround noise, but, I kinda couldn't be bothered

Well my boss went out to lunch so I had time to watch the whole thing...

The only hand I don't like, that you didn't already say was a bad play, was the QTo about 3 minutes into the last video. I was trying to make an excuse for you to bet the river when it got checked to you, but I can't. I love your mid/late game play, putting the pressure on others, but this is just one that I can't agree with (maybe I am just too nitty).

Anyways here is why: Yes we know that the only way to win this pot is to bet the river, but let's look at what kind of hand we are repping. You bet the flop making it look like you don't want this hand to go any further (feel free to correct me if I am wrong here). When we get called it is obvious we are behind when the turn completes the flush draw he could have, that is assuming he had missed the board otherwise. A check on the turn shows weakness because if you did hit the flush, then you would want to get value from a smaller flush...this makes your river bet less believable IMO. When you also say you assume to split this pot, why rish another 160k? I think that the rish/reward here is way too small. This late in a MTT I think a check is the best move here just for self preservation. I had no real problem with how this hand was played as a whole up to that river bet.

As for how you COULd have done something different, I think the turn could have been done a bit different. This is the only spot I can see a bet taking down the pot. If he did have something like AK any bet here would force him to fold. AND if we bet here and just get called, what kind of river is he not going to check it right back to you? Obviously I know the outcome of the hand, but I just thought I would throw out another option that I don't think is awful.

EDIT: Question, where you going to call off if he came over the top of you on the river? I am not sure you even had time to think that far ahead. I was just curious if you had thought about that.

Yeah, you're right, I discussed the thought behind the bet on the rail requests thread too, it was a bad play. I can't disagree with that at all. I just took a stab at it at the wrong point and the story I was trying to tell made no sense. Really poor on my part.

I hope I was not being too critical...I am by no means a pro, or even a very profitable player. Just thought you wanted a little feedback. Sorry I missed the discussion in the rail thread.

Okay. That was obviously my assumption, which was another argument to me for checking behind on the river instead of putting out like 40% or whatever it was as a bet.

Yeah, that was really just a bad play all round. I need to learn to shut down completely sometimes and just give up on a hand, it's probably one of my biggest leaks if i'm honest, I pounce on weakness and get trapped easily sometimes. It's not often but in an MTT one big mistake and you're screwed in some cases.

Very true. I don't hate the play, except the river...and mainly because you are so deep and in such good shape. I just didn't think the risk was worth the possible reward. But even with that play, you pretty much bent that tourney over and did it dirty. Just a little more stamina and you will take down the next one. lol

Judging by YouTube views, people are watching Video one and then realising i'm so dull they can't be arsed to watch the other 4!

Just watched the 2nd vid.
Still, I'm impressed and I like the way you bring this into my room.
I watch these hands, pausing the vid, thinking what I should do in the same spot (which is actually kinda same as what you did there).
The vids though, feel like it's brought some kind of more personal, than just posting HHs.

Did I miss what Buyin and type of MTT this was? Reason I ask is, so far I only watch the first one, and like your explanation and play, but on Pokerstars I play .25 90 players sng, and your reasoning seems too high level there.

Just today I saw someone over bet the pot on the turn, and like your trip Q hand in the 1st video I said to myself, he cant have that, he wouldnt make such a large bet so I called and he had it.

I also cant see betting someone off of pocket JJ like you were able to do. Was that play player specific, because you had the read, the chat and so forth, or is that a normal play you try.

No, you're right, I forgot to put that in. It was a $2.75 MTT with around 6000 entrants. The play with 88 was pretty player specific. I tend to assume everyone is an idiot until proved wrong. Also, in an MTT you can get a lot deeper stacked, especially with 10 minute levels and a 3k starting stack so you can make a play like that at times, but it certainly isn't something I'd recommend doing with 88 every time you get 3 bet.

Just to address this. The point on that was situation specific. I had shown very little strength up to that point aside from raising the flop and c-betting. After that I shut down, so if he has a hand he wants to get value from, I can't see why he would think he's going to get it by betting that much when I've hardly shown a desire to build the pot, that close to the bubble.

In general, I find overbets often do signal a big hand and I don't think you can isolate a situation as "he bet big there, he's bluffing." Think why did he bet big? What does he think I have? Does he think I'm strong and will call anything? Have I shown weakness and he thinks he can steal?

You didnt mention it in the AQ hand, but im sure you considered it implicitly
. another reason you want to check back the turn is to widen villains bluffing range. if u bet he might not call with worse. by checking you allow him to bet the river with worse

Yeah, you're right there Loop, there's not much he'll call a second barrel with that's I'm beating, plus it massively undervalues our hand, which induced the bluff in the end.
